Another transformation of Black Sabbath after Ozzy Osbourne and Ronnie James Dio, now with Ian Gillan. It's by far the most underrated album in the history of Black Sabbath. For the most devoted of fans, perhaps this is the worst album. In my opinion it's a great heavy metal record and a great alliance between Ian Gillan and Tony Iommi.

Very underrated album. Gillan is a great vocalist, and the album is jam packed with classic, but unique Tony riffs. Production is odd, but I find that it adds to the darkness of the album. Great release, one of their best.

Probably Sabbath's heavyist release, at least since Paranoid.

Definitely one of the most underrated albums in the history of rock/metal music.
The songs are great, despite the slightly weird production. And just listen to the main riff of Zero The Hero! It's got the same vibe as those classic Sabbath riffs (or Iommi trademark riffs, if you please).
And I like the fact that Gillan doesn't try to sound like Ozzy or Dio here, but sings in his own style, which makes those songs shine all the more.

I wouldn't go so far as to describe this as the worst album in the history of heavy music but I definitely think it's a major disappointment. Having Gillan on vocals, I had hoped for a lot more. I don't subscribe to the "this album is underrated" theory for this one, that's for sure.

Well this album cover has caused a lot of controversy and even revulsion in the mainstream community, so on that basis, perhaps it qualifies as a good metal album cover?

This album...Born Dead....and later...are awesome....i know a lot of people dislike those albums which for me are masterpieces...all-time classics....even if behind the microphone is not Ozzy Or Dio...Ian Gillan done a awesome work in Born Dead...singing with his own style...without tryin to copy Dio or Ozzy....Hail Black Sabbath.. \m/

This is one of my favorite Sabbath albums. It hits some speed bumps here and there, but there's something about the sound of it that resonates pure evil. Plus Disturbing the Priest and Born Again are two of my favorite Sabbath tracks. Ever. Oh, and Ian Gillian's voice is channeling Satan himself.

I will never understand how this album is better appreciated and better rated than Never Say Die and Seventh Star.

Born Again remains one of my least favorite BS albums, along with Forbidden.

Apart from a stunning opening (Trashed, Disturbing the Priest) i'm not that fond of this album, it's a nice overall listen but definitely among their weakest releases.

A Nice Guy
It was always going to be such a huge undertaking to find someone to fill in Dio's shoes after his departure, just as it was to replace Ozzy, and on paper Ian Gillan seemed like a wise choice, just as Dio was, by replacing Ozzy, as after all they are both phenomenal vocalist. I must to admit at first, I didn't really warm to his vocals on this particular album, but the vocals have grown on ne more and more, it's a shame Gillan never stuck with Black Sabbath.

This album was just as the album title would suggest, it was a born again Sabbath, they were back with their heavier doomy sound, only this time even heavier, and with a psychedelic vibe to it at times. The production was unlike any under Dio, it was raw, and possibly their most rough sounding album to date.

Not every song wowed me, but I never found any songs that dissapointed me either, "Zero The Hero" is the one yhat stands out most for me.
