"Black Cascade" marks the third full length release from the Olympia, Washington based black metal band.

The album contains all the component parts those of you familiar with WITTR would expect. The tracks all easily clock in at epic length, with each of the four songs clearing the ten-minute mark. The band's trademark shimmering tremolo-picked riffs are ever present. There are also short quiet interludes with falling rain or winds to showcase the nature and weather of the Pacific Northwest that is so near and dear in the hearts of these Wolves.

A very nice album indeed... It's just that the others rock harder.

I guess it just sounds a little darker than the others which appeals to me. All of their releases are fantastic though so it is hard to choose favorites.

I wouldn't call it darker... I guess it just sounds a bit more "regular black" to most people and not as majestic as they usually play. But yeah, these guys are hella consistent so far. Can't fail with any of the Wolves' albums.

Well, turns out they can, and did, with Celestite.

Provided you lack experience and taste with electronic music, then yeah.

It certainly is Wolves weakest, even if one has experience with and likes electronic music

Rating: 6 This, and the preceding EP, are Wolves' weakest by far, and that's coming from both a black metal and electronic music fan. This album is such a dud that I'm amazed they managed to bring it back so hard with the two albums that followed it.

Not sure i would say Two Hunters and Black Cascade are total duds, but yeah, i liked Diadem of 12 stars and Celestial lineage much better.

Nah, Two Hunters is quite good, I meant the Malevolent Grain EP. Basically suffers the same issues as this album for me.

Rating: 9 The Malevolent Grain EP is the only one I didn't enjoy that much. As for the rest, I utterly love the Wolves, and this album makes no exception. Ahrimanic Trance must be one of the best BM songs I've ever heard.

I'm much more fond of their BM with ambient elements stuff rather than their purely ambient stuff (Celistite). The debut and Two Hunters are both fantastic albums.

Been playing this a lot lately after not listening to it for a few months, it's actually a pretty good album
mz - 21.10.2014 at 10:38
Rating: 8 I always loved this one, too. Perhaps because it was my first album of Wolves. Definitely their weakest when it comes to BM, but quiet enjoyable on its own.
