Only if you've been living under a giant rock - or under the beer belly of Tankard vocalist Andreas Geremia - would you be unaware Rotting Christ released a new album last month. There was a heap of buzz about the successor of the mighty Theogonia and, unsurprisingly, the internet is now flooded with so-called in-depth reviews. In normal circumstances, Metal Storm likes to separate the wheat from the chaff, ie. the specialized analysis from whatever McDonalds worker's opinion. But for once we are giving the floor to the "special" kind of reviews to get the message through.

A real disappointment to me, and some of the worst production in awhile for a renowned band. The vocals are for the most part atrocious, which I'm amazed I could even think that after finding the vocals on Theogonia to be excellent. A good candidate for my 2010 letdown already.

Actually I do agree with you on the vocals. It sounds weird. I gave it a lot of listens already and it never seems to surpass 7, which coming from one of my fav bands is disappointing and unexpected. But that's what they did.

Comes in catchy and walks out boring.
I have no memory of this place.

The album contains black - greek folk- atmospharic - metal but these are just labels i think.. The point is that RC want to show what's inside the soul of an ancient greek soldier befor, during and after the battle. I find the music and the lyrics of their best albums

Good album but not too impressive. It sounds like a continuation of Theogonia but less inspired. And, as some people already mentioned, the vocals sound pretty bad in comparison with pretty much any other Rotting Christ album.
Actually my favourite track on this album is Diamanda Galas cover, which sounds fresh.
Oh, and a real pity for me that Alan Nemtheanga was limited to singing just a "thou on the cross - for you shall fight/thou on the cross - for you shall die" bit. I get the feeling that Rotting Christ wasted an opportunity to use such a great vocalist on their album...

They have made a move that is much more Amon Amarth than Septicflesh. They ougth to change the genre listing on this one to melodic death metal as any shred of black metal is pretty much gone. Either way, glad to see them experimenting rather than stagnating.
