Rage are back with their fruitiest album since Soundchaser. Strings To A Web is a much more relaxed, fun and overall enjoyable album than the band's previous album Carved In Stone, which was much more to-the-point and no nonsense.

The band have found their flair once more and are back to terrorize your ears with some sugary, manly, heavy metal. In truth Strings To A Web is a melodic metal album that visits traditional heavy metal, power metal and also touches on the progressive for a few moments.

This new album is just Rage sticking to what they do best. Although overall the songs aren't quite as memorable as some they've done in the past. ''Tomorrow Never Comes" is a great anthemic rock song like ''Long Hard Road'' from ''Carved In Stone''. And ''Empty Hollow'' is a great throwback to their more experimental works. But overall it's a very run of the mill album for them. The intro riff to "Hunter And Prey" is so similar to the one in "Down" that I almost expect Peavy to go "You're going down!", although he does go "Hunt you down!" which makes it sound even more similar to that song. But it is a great song regardless.

As for best power metal album of 2010? Nah, the new Freedom Call has it beat. They totally revamped their sound, and totally surprised me with the adventurous nature of the album. The new Rage as decent as it is, is just what I expected, and not as good as some of their previous albums. Thats my opinion anyways!

Glad someone agrees with me with the Freedom Call at least.

Dream Evil... if you haven't liked their last albums, I wouldn't say you'd like this one much better. I would say however, give them another go. It took me a while to get into Dream Evil properly... they're not a typical, simple power metal band.

I have seen a lot of harsh comments towards the new Freedom Call, though theirs really is a ''love it or hate it'' style. But they really surprised me, as well as making a very high quality album. Rage did nothing to surprise me at all, and their new album is nothing more than decent.

As for Dream Evil, I've always liked their music, but you need to have a very strong stomach for cheese. People who find Freedom Call cheesy, wouldnt be able to take Dream Evil. And from what Ive heard, the new album's lyrics are the same as they've always done!

I don't know, I would say Freedom Call were a lot cheesier than Dream Evil. Dream Evil have some humorous lyrics, but their music is more serious.

I meant in a purely lyrical sense.

I often wish Dream Evil would start writing some more serious lyrics. Maybe not get rid of the humour completely, but I think the quality of their music isn't really done justice by some of their more ridiculous lyrics. I also think a lot more people might like them if the lyrics were overall less silly. To me, the music is the most important thing. But I know some people can be turned off by lyrical content alone.

That's a great example! That song is very good, but the lyrics are amazingly cheesy.

I think anyone who can get past the silliness of the lyrics and just focus on the music, then they'll find a lot to enjoy with ''In The Night''.

Pretty much this.

I only really love 3 songs on the album. "Beggars Last Dime", "Empty Hollow" and "Tomorrow Never Comes".

A huge step forward from Carved in Stone, they gave themself a kick in the ass and wrote a whole bunch of nice tunes. The best part of the album is the Empty Hollow suite which showcases the same idea as on the Lingua Mortis Suite. It's a nice ride that doesn't get boring. Among the other songs I find the opener and The Beggar's Last Dime to be among the better ones, very catchy and melodic songs.

First time hearing Rage, and man this is excellent. Catchy, fun, and packed creative riffs and musical ideas. I don't like that the best song here "Empty Hollow" is divided, but aside from that, I like pretty much everything here. If this is one of the weakest albums from Rage (According to a bunch of guys on MA) I cannot wait to hear more.
