I am in a vast minority here but I like Re-Traced. In fact, I would much rather listen to Re-Traced than Traced In Air. While Traced In Air was a nice experimental metal excursion that will inspire newer artists to test out new directions for years to come, much like Cynic's first album did, it is hard to overlook how the band just doesn't have their heart in metal anymore. The more they tried to create a "not metal" metal sound, the more I just wanted them to remove those elements and do what they clearly wanted to do anyway. This is where Re-Traced enters the picture, removing nearly all of the metal bits from select Traced In Air material and essentially stripping it down into a complex acoustic album. I can understand why most metal fans wouldn't care for Re-Traced but, for me, there is one big reason that makes it great.

Not a good Ep. The only song that is quitly good is Wheels Within Wheels. The other songs are just boring

I was expecting Traced In Air without the vocals at such an annoying level in the mix. Instead, these stripped down electronica-like versions only highlight them even more. I think they have been listening to too much Radiohead...

Traced In Air wasn't too good already. But this rep makes that one seem like a bleeding classic.

As someone who adores Traced in Air as the most amazing guitar album ever written, I'd say...

Yea. 7. Not too bad. More of a jazz record, kinda liked King and evolutionary in particular. With one or two more new tracks along the lines of Wheels this would be a really worthwhile release.

Space was a low blow. Halfway through that track I was feeling quite gutted that I'd paid for this EP.

There's not much on this that says "Oh my GOD release me now everyone in the world must hear this record!"

I liked the vocals. They were my highlight.

They said before releasing it it will be different. I personally can't say I really like it, there are some parts here and there that are interesting, and the "standard" song Wheels within the wheels is good too, the rest is sort of an experiment.

If you can't stand electronic music, it's better to avoid this.

I was excited for this, but i have to say it let me down. I did enjoy wheels within wheels, but i really thought the different they were talking about would be a "different" different.

A fine EP, in my opinion. I like "Traced in Air" quite a lot so listening to the re-mixes of those good songs were not unpleasant (even though, I still prefer original versions). And Wheels Within Wheels is a really nice song that could easily find its place on the full-length album.
