Please, we don't need to talk about the Black Metal past of this band. Take this album and think about a new band, completely unknown. But with the same talent for electro/ambient sounds as Ulver used to have for Black Metal. Genius for music i would say. Music moves feelings, and this album moves as much as Bergtatt or Kveldssanger did.

Not metal, but excellent nonetheless. A very interesting record.

Been revisiting this one a lot since a guy recommended me to try with this one after not liking Wars Of The Roses a few months back. It has an amazing atmosphere and roughly reminds me of Bioshock somehow.

Vaguely in the same avenue would be Bohren & Der Club Of Gore and The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble.

I've heard those two I especially love TKDJE, similar mood and atmosphere I like to put them on when driving around the city at night with all the lights, night-life and general seediness etc. Thanks for the suggestions anyway!

Actually my mistake, I'm yet to listen to The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble (though have heard of them)... Mount Fuji Doomjazz Coorporation is the band I meant. Got them mixed up heh.

Ah yeah, Mount Fuji are a bit darker and more experimental and tend to use jazz in more obscure ways.

I'm actually not a great fan of Ulver, KDE or Bohren to be honest, I guess I'm just not a great fan of jazz. I effing love Mount Fuji though, totally my kind of thing.

I didn't think too highly of Bohren either they didn't seem to have the spark, though to be fair I only gave them one listen. This is the only post-BM Ulver I've heard, I think it might just be the beats that are really entrancing me (now that I think of it, I probably should search some more through Trip Hop).

Agree with you on Mount Fuji man and a big thanks to you guys over at the non-metal recommendations thread which is where I found them!

Really awesome album. Great to listen to while walking around the streets of a big city (like New York, for example). Very chill, yet frantic at the same time.

One of my top 3 albums of all time, next to Bohren's "Sunset Mission" (jazz noir if anyone's interested) and Carbon Based Lifeforms' "Interloper" (ambient if anyone's interested).

No words to describe it, really. You just need to listen to it.

Such a brilliant album. An extremely good showcase of how to use electronic sounds to create song structures/passages.

I think I figured out why I never loved this album, and it's because tracks 6, 7 and 8 are so rubbish compared to the rest (aside from 4 which is only so-so). It's just really inconsistent, starting on an amazing high then fizzling out before last ditch attempt with the final track. Not a great fan of the singing here either, but not overly so.

Yeah I don't mind We Are The Dead but the following two tracks were never a big deal for me. Dead City Centres has that cheeeeeeesy cringe-worthy spoken part, Catalept is just plain stupid and luckily doesn't last for more than two minutes. Still, the rest is so brilliant and reminds me of the time I discovered this album, when I didn't know pretty much anything about electronic music. Lots of memories.
