And here we go - the "gods of grindcore", as many people call them, unknown why to me and to the band itself, have launched the "Bloodthirst" follow-up. It is the major event, taking place at Metal Blade for the early 2002. Why not? It was a titanic band, which used to sell a lot. It was the first real band to succeed with provoking and shocking everyone and everything with its deadly covers and 1000-ton heavy music. So what? After the departure of Chris Barnes, mid-way through recording "Vile", Corpsegrinder was a surge of freshness into the stale-aired room of the Cannibal concept.

Whilst several songs on this album do sound decent when heard on their own, 'Gore obsessed' in general sounds slightly weak and hesitant in comparison to its predecessors. This is probably because, unsurprisingly, CC are following a too-much tried-and-tested formula that for anyone other than the most devoted of CC fans it would appear boring and eventually tiresome. I could give many examples of songs that do well on their own-'Savage butchery', 'Dormant bodies bursting', 'Mutation of the cadaver' to name a few-but it's a waste of time if you've never liked Cannibal Corpse or Brutal Death Metal for that matter. I personally don't have any major problems with this album, but it's just one that I will never favour over albums such as 'Butchered at Birth' or 'Bloodthirst'.

I know I'm very much in a tiny minority with this opinion, but "Gore Obsessed" is probably my fave Cannibal Corpse album. Usually, there's at least a couple of duds on each CC album, but I love every single song on this one. One of the album's greatest strengths, is how so many of the songs are so memorable and/or catchy. And that is even the case on it's more technical moments like "Hatchet To The Head" and "Mutation Of The Cadaver".

Definitely the most underrated CC album for me.

I actually like this album way better than the Chris Barnes albums. Which isn't saying much, really.

Well, it's Cannibal Corpse, nothing more, nothing less. Extremely well executed Death Metal with gore-themed lyrics. The same thing they do since the late 80s which is not necessarily a bad thing. But you always know what hit you, if you listen to a Cannibal Corpse album.

Probably Cannibal Corpse and Napalm Death are the two most arguable bands in metal scene. There're huge differences in ratings from albums to albums by critics and metalheads. So weird...

A Nice Guy
The songwriting was pretty bad on this one tbh, and the sound and production was also not that great, the guitar tone changed several times too often, and the vocals seem like they were too high in the mix, the riffs are nothing particularly memorable either. It's not exactly one of their best, it's kind of bland imho.

I also had the same impression, the production and mixing of this album is not the best. I think they tried to do something similar like in Bloodthirst, but it was far from being at least equal.
