Children of Bodom? It's hard to describe their music if you've never heard it before. It's a mix of power metal, speed metal and on the other side black/death metal for vocals! Let's say that it's just amazing. For their third album, Children of Bodom has taken the good things of their two previous ones and added some boosted melodies. As a result, Follow the Reaper is a brilliant cocktail of angry riffs and sweet but fast melodies.

Death be not proud, though some have called thee mighty and dreadful, thou art not so.

The follow up album to Hatebreeder, this album too has a very good little speach to kick it off. The five peace melo-death/extreme power metallers are back and better than ever with this album. This album, like their previous work has infamous neo-classical passeges, legendary harmonies, and solid rhythm work. Ladies and gentlemen, I have followed the reaper and I have tasted his scythe, it was sweet.

i ddint enjoy this album a lot.

Me too. IMO it's overrated and it isn't the best Children Of Bodom album at all. "Hatebreeder" and "Something Wild" are better than it.

Well for me these two albums are very good without doubt, but I think that with this one Children Of Bodom reached the peak of their amazing creation with still fresh original ideas and pure agressive performance. After ''Follow The Reaper'' their road quickly went downhill.

Better than Something Wild and Blooddrunk by far, which are the other 2 Bodom albums I've heard. Still have a softspot for the latter, though.

Overall my favourite COB album, purely for the beautiful combination of melody and powerful guitar techniques.

Yeah this one was never my fave. i think the keyboards and the catchy choruses are just a tad to overbearing on this album. Though its still a great album with extremely techniqal guitars, atmostspheric keys, catchy choruses, and brootal yet beautifal melodies. I think the catchiness is why its so popular.

Here's how I see it; this album is an amazing 3rd installment after 2 other great releases. It was followed by a very good 4th outing with Hatecrew Deathroll., but after that though, their next 3 took a severe drop in quality, especially Blooddrunk and Are You Dead Yet?

Godlike. Their best. "Hatebreeder" made them melodic death stars. "Follow the Reaper" made them one the best metal bands ever. At almost the same time Nightwish made the similar moves with "Oceanborn" and "Wishmaster". IMHO, these 2 albums of 2000 year sealed metal as reborn genre after 5 or 6 years of struggle, search and changes.

Some good songs but that synthesizer kills it for me.

I prefer Something Wild and Hatebreeder. But to be fair I never gave this album much of a chance due to near constant state of inebriation when it came out.

I did get Hatecrew Deathroll (by which time I was slightly more sober) but it didn't really grab me either. So I never went back to Follow The Reaper.

Follow The Reaper is quite a bit superior to HCDR.

Do all their albums feature prominent synthesizer? I just wanted to check because if the answer is yes, I'm not interested in exploring anymore of their catalogue. I'm a rabid anti-synthite.

It's not synth, it's keyboard. And yes, they're keyboardist is very prominent in all their music. One of the aspects of their music which garnered them a lot of attention from the very beginning was their penchant for tandem guitar/keyboard solos.

This is indeed better than HCDr, but HCDr is still quite enjoyable. The newest album was like an awful, tired and hackneyed version of it.

No other band I listen to has keyboards competing with the guitar and indulging in lead breaks, so it's quite different from anything else I've listened to. To be honest, I don't really like the sound of keyboards or synthesizer as a main instrument. I prefer keyboards to be in the background, a bit like how they are played in Enslaved. It's just my personal preference. Obviously Children of Bodom are hugely popular, so it's something a lot of people are comfortable with. And Children of Bodom have been around for a long time, so they've made a successful career out of it. Good on 'em. I still enjoy some of the songs on this album, that's for sure.

That's what I loved about their music in the first 4 albums. Everything after HCDr is crap, except Halo of Blood. And even then, as you can see by Joe's comment above, it's rather HCDr-esque.

A very disappointing album. I remember getting this back when it came out, and was quickly let down by its messy production and average material overall. I have never really understood the hype surrounding Everytime I die, people keep telling me how awesome and mind blowing it is, but I just don't get it at all. For me it's just an average song, just like the rest.

This album is very fun to listen to! It's in my opinion a pretty unique mix of power, speed, and death metal (and the vocals are like in black metal).
I love how the guitar and keyboards work seamlessly together! Alexi Laiho was very talented and his work won't be forgotten! R.I.P.
