A while back, I heard myself complaining to someone that I hadn't found any unique and cool Black metal in a while. I just couldn't find anything interesting for a while and that freaked me out. Where were all the cool releases off to? A party I wasn't invited to? But suddenly it struck me - I hadn't ordered from Paradigms Recordings in a while! Foolish, foolish me! If there's one label (there are more, but PR is a good example) that always releases unique stuff, it's Paradigms Recordings. (I'm not getting paid for this shameless plug, unfortunately). Whatever they release, on whatever side of their broad spectrum, you can bet your mother on it that it's either mind-blowing, flabbergasting or virtually inconceivable. (Unless you're trying to get rid of your mother, in that case, you're better off betting Dimmu Borgir won't cover Justin Bieber on their next release. It's more likely, I tell you. Actually, I think that's more likely than a lot of things.)
Murmuüre is Black metal made by aliens, weird aliens at that. Harsh, noisy and soulless Black metal. And with plenty of empty, starless cosmic plains. Err, plains? What do they call those, ehm, empty and ehm, starless spaces high up in the air?
Either way, check it out. Murmuüre will surprise you, promise! If not, your loss. Unless you like Power metal or fancy-pansy metal, then you'll probably hate it.

Yeah I could have listened to more of the same for 3 times as long and not been bored. Still though, half an hour of concentrated perfection, for me anyway.
I agree. It is a great original black/ambient record, but it didn't blow me away as I expected. Maybe that's because it's totally unstructured and improvised. However, I can listen to it when I want to relax or study. Some good ambiance in there.
So after 5 listens, I don't think I'll give it more than an 8. The rating is subject to change as always though.

Hmmmmmmmmmm no, there's definitely structure here. Just not the approachable kind of structure we are used to listen to. This is after all, not a full noise/ambient album. It's grounds are still black metal so the structure remains visible. Not improvastion here either. All feels like it was planned as normal.

"All the Murmuure material is based on a one hour guitar improvisation from November 2006. The selected parts were then further edited to fit a rhythmic structure, and merged with additional layers of sound. The percussions are a mixture of the original programmed drums, and some (extremely re-edited) additional live drumming. Vocals were recorded during a cathartic trance at a sacred place in the forest, with a mini-disc recorder. Being almost inaudible in the music, they're strictly conceived as a vocal sigil technique, a vehicle for intent."

Regardless of what it says, to me it feels quite easy on the ears when it comes to composition and no nearly aimless and casual as the comment might suggest. I guess I'm just used to hear far more structure-challenging projects by now (mostly thanks to Mories).
It feels loose and sometimes indeed unstructured but at the same time coherent and easy, and this is what makes it so special to me. I fell in love with it from the first listen and it kept growing on me until I decided to ten it.
