777 - The Desanctification is the second part of the "777" trilogy which has so far been exhilarating enough to casually brush shoulders with one by their natal peers, Deathspell Omega. With the second part, Blut Aus Nord decided to go with a radically different sound when compared to 777 - Sect(s).

The chaos from 777 - Sect(s) is shunned in favor of much more repeating and structured song writing. It's now more brooding and resonating. While 777 - Sect(s) was a little more varied, this record is monolithic rather than diverse; it's unnerving rather than disorienting; it's breathtaking rather than suffocating. It makes the previous record look like a clumsy mess, and the previous record was nothing to scoff at. It makes you marvel at the caliber of these Frenchmen.

"The nauseating madness has been cast aside in favour of a slower, pounding industrial, typically Blut Aus Nord; absolutely not a novelty for this band, yet a strengthening of their experimental side, as well as a worthy second chapter of the trilogy... morbid and disquieting, rather than twisted and unpredictable. Always apocalyptic of course." - Kenos

A perfect descriptive testimony of the strengths of Blut Aus Nord.

Blut aus Nord being referred to as "simple"? That's a new one.

Joe I'm sure you have something to say about that.

Great! I find this music to have elements of hypnosis or trance, for example in Epitome VIII. Beware and buy!

Best of the 777 trilogy and quite possibly my favorite BAN album period. The drumming, the groove, the spine tingling dissonance... simply otherworldly

The best of the 777s for sure, but was quickly outshone by Liber II I think. If it had better production and sound it might rival it, however, but the fake mechanical sound of the 777s really bottlenecks the potential of them.

Are the vocals being played in reverse here? Always wondered how exactly he achieved that sound with them

I assume there was supposed to be a youtube link in this comment

I guess you mean at the start here?

Or do you mean in general? It does sound like it's being played backwards. He could just be ad-libbing it though. I guess the only way to tell is to play the song backwards and know French.

Speaking of vocals in reverse I always quite liked what Akercocke did here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTkhKXFYCvk

Actually no, there wasn't, but you're right that it's most noticeable on Epitome VII (and elsewhere in the album, such as X as well). Cool effect, however Vindsval might've achieved it.

Just started getting in to BaN, and I feel like I'm really going to like this trilogy. Will get into it when I have the time, but in the meantime, I decided to buy the limited Vinyl copy of this album. I saw it on the web, and it looked so fucking cool that I just had to have it, regardless of the quality of the music (which, judging by the comments, is really fucking good anyway). I'm excited to give it a spin when I get it, but I'll make sure to listen to the first of the 777 albums before I do so.

The solo on Epitome VIII is still the most glorious thing. That tone God damn it! Up there with Procession of the blessed frozen cells and Level-1 as the best of best of BaN.

What a great album!

BLVT AUS NORD is a group for whom there are no boundaries, genres and musical trends are an illusion. I can't describe in words what I felt while listening to this, simply a wonderful experience. These tones absorbing the listener like a black hole...

Already I can't wait for the last part of the trilogy, and I'm sure it will be perfect.

How would you rank Blut Aus Nord's Full Length albums?

Huh, after all these years this trilogy is not as exciting as I initially thought... Anyway, here's my ranking:

2) Thematic Emanation Of Archetypal Multiplicity [EP] - 8,7/10
3) MoRT - 8,5/10
4) Odinist - 8,4/10
5) 777 - The Desanctification - 7,5/10
6) 777 - Sect(s) - 7,4/10
7) 777 - Cosmosophy - 7,3/10
8) The Mystical Beast Of Rebellion - 7/10
9) Ultima Thulée - 6,8/10
10) Memoria Vetusta I - 6,7/10

I might give different ratings and orders to the top 3, but that order looks like how I would do it too. I'd probably slip Liber II somewhere in the top 4 if it were included.

Yeah sadly. Aside from the De Librio Arbitrio track I don't think I've touched anything BaN have done since Liber III more than a couple of times at most.

MoRT is the best shiz. Apart from that, I do enjoy the Liber eps and 777 albums. Everything else by them comes after this for me.

On topic though, I think its hard for me to pick a favorite among the 777 trilogy because it just depends on my mood. But its the last one I guess, mostly because it is the most electronic and far away from bm in the trilogy. True, it might sound weak but I like the ambient-ish electronic soundscapes there.

I would rank this probably in my top 3 BaN records. Definitely the best of the triology, has the right balance of atmosphere and its even quite catchy which I like.

Yes its quite a weird opinion indeed. Teeth always sound sonically weak to me, to be blunt it isn't heavy or dark enough I know I shouldn't look for those elements there but still I can't seem to ignore that aspect when I listen to it.
I recently did visit back the 777 trilogy just to make sure if I still liked and I definitely did enjoy it a lot and the last more because it was the least catchy and was fittingly climatic and apocalyptic.
