Within the world of power metal, Dark Moor is a band that deserves to be higher up the food chain. Sure, they're well known and respected, but they should really be on the top tier of the genre. Throughout their almost 20 year history they have consistently released amazing albums. Not just solid or "good stuff," actual great power metal. Even with a change of vocalist 10 years ago, they didn't skip a beat, and seem to continue improving with time and releasing standards of power metal.

"The road again" is a killer track. Maybe one of their biggest hits to date. I hope the rest will be on par.

This band has released many solid and amazing albums over the years but the last one, Ancestral Romance, I didn't love.

Overall, they're probably one of the best, most solid power metal bands out there, and still quite underrated for it! May this album put them back on top.

I totally disagree, in my opinion Ancestral Romance is the best álbum with the singer Alfred Romero, where he really starts to performance better his voice. Also i hope that this album is as good as the previous .

These guys are not that familiar to me, but I'm really curious about this new album. I bought Ancestral Romance as a new release, but haven't given it the time of day yet. I get the impression that they're right up my alley though, so I'm excited about that.

Dark Moor is a band with two ages. First was from 1999 to 2003, when the singer was Elisa C. Martín (ex-Fairyland, Hamka, Dreamaker), with her the band did an AMAZING Power Metal sometimes with symphonic elements but not so much as nowadays. Also Elisa's voice is not the cliche operatic you'd expect from any band of this kind, she ROCKS!!!

And the second age is from 2003 to nowadays, with Alfred Romero in vocal duties. Alfred undoubtedly is a singer who has grown in his voice quality throughout the years. Surely he doesn't this times the screams that recorded in the band's homonymous album, but he catches you with some amazing Baritone vocal performances very powerful, and sometimes he sounds alike Khan.

I'm digging now this new album now that it's leaked and I must to say that is a little slower than their previous releases from which I'm listening, but the catchiness and the powerful sound (without mentioning the great guitar solos by Enrik García and, of course, the tremendous Alfred's performances) are still here. I thank this line-up remains and I hope more albums from them

I recommend you beginning with their best album with Elisa: THE GATES OF OBLIVION (also their best one and part of my top-10 ever), and also their best with Alfred: AUTUMNAL (this one is like hearing Nightwish with a baritone)

Hmm, that's nice. The Gates Of Oblivion and Autumnal... I'll see if both of the online-stores I frequently visit have got those two availaible.
In your opinion, is their discography a consistent one with only good albums, or?

Well, I love all their albums. Maybe the slighty not so amazing (but still great) is IMHO Beyond The Sea. They are a band that never disappoints

Well put together, but in the end it's just another boring, unoriginal, and forgettable Power Metal album.

Their discography is QUITE consistent! In fact, I think everyone here will give you different favorites. I'd say Hall Of Olden Dreams if by far the best album with Elisa, and either Autumnal or Tarot could be the best with Alfredo. We all have different favorites, which just means each album is amazing One thing we can agree on is that they're nearly all great records!

I revived the general Dark Moor thread here --> http://www.metalstorm.net/forum/topic.php?topic_id=2378 so we can discuss ALL of our favorite albums from this spectacular band.

Is this typical of the post-Dreamaker lineup (all I've got is this and Gates Of Oblivion)? If so, I'll have to get more.

More or less yes, but this is less power and more slow (less Living In A Nightmare that is awesome), bit by bit they have become more symphonic. Try with Autumnal and Ancestral Romance , and tell us =)

Well, the album is nice but the band slowly is losing speed, just Living In A Nightmare, partially The City of Peace, some parts of First Lance of Spain and The Road Again, still contains the Power Metal-ish essence, the rest of the album is more Hard Rock-ish and Gara and Jonay is a beautiful ballad. Also I feel Alfred didn't get so great in this album as he got it in Ancestral Romance (dat lyrical vocalz in Alaric de Marnac, Mío Cid, La Canción del Pirata, Ah! Wretched Me, Gadir, the chorus in Love from the Stone!!!).

Anyway their music is still enjoyable and over the top IMHO, but this one isn't better than Ancestral Romance, and Autumnal keeps being their best one with Alfred.

BUT!, there is one thing no one can deny, the basslines made in this album by Mario García are AMAZING!!! (specially in the solo part from Living In A Nightmare! )
