According to the bandcamp page: "'Consolamentum' is a concept album, divided into 5 chapters, dealing with the spiritual journey and transformation of a human soul towards salvation." Out of context, this could be a description for some acoustic, hippy type stuff. I guess it could be...provided that hippy is Charles Manson. Make no mistake: this is some heavy shit both in content and music. From the captivating intro to the crushing, lengthy title track closer, Ascension have created one of my favorite black metal albums of the 2000's.

Clearly inspired by DSO and SOTM. Some really cool patents, some annoying. Generally good to listen to, but I miss here a little more originality. This's not surprising, nothing new here. Or maybe I'm just more and more accustomed.. Anyway, this is certainly not "Chaining The Katechon", but definetly worth to check it out.

Solid album, but it's obvious that the band needs to offer more than just being a deathspell omega clone.

Violent and evil sounding, great production. I disagree with the Deathspell Omega comparison. I think these guys are much more straight-forward.

Perhaps true, but then again you could say Glorior Belli did the whole DsO simplified thing (particularly 'Manifesting the Raging Beast' which is excellent).

For its era this is a really nice album though, it's just a shame so many bands do this kind of thing these days. I think Svartidaudi and Carpe Noctem and probably going to be amongst the last bands of the sound worth listening to.

Likely true given that the latest album after this one lacks steam.
