The contrasts of The Aneasthete are conceived with clarity of sound in Rosetta's first independent release. With the tightening of composition a clearly noticeable divide emerges between the two extremes of a life threatening sludge assault and the deft touch of melody.

I can understand why this album isn't as well received as Cult of Luna, for example, but for me this is one of 2013's highlights. The frequent shifts from delicacy to explosive ferocity are pulled off remarkably well, and as a whole I find the album to be extremely engaging. Definitely Rosetta's best in a long time.

I still listen to Hodoku/Compassion a lot though but I kinda also agree with Frit above that this album is very moody for me too.

It's funny how people perceive music very differently. I tend to align with tea[m]ster's attitude; I certainly wouldn't classify this as a moody effort. I just think this happens to be one of the most underrated records of the year.

It is not really moody in the sense that it depresses me but it is more like a rollercoaster. It somehow "plays" with my emotions as I listen to it and that is sort of disturbing .

Probably that also does not help I can tie this album subconsciously to a certain person that amplifies this effect even more.

Does the cover remind anyone else of Sinergy's To Hell And Back?
