Seemingly odd title for sure, especially for these guys.

The title is a quote from Metropolis, an old black and white silent sci-fi from the 20s. I think it's a great quote but I don't know if it's good for an album title.

I've heard some samples and they doesn't sound as bad as I thoght

Edit: I heard it yesterday and sounded much better than I expected. The second half is a bit boring and strange.

I don't know if was the quality of the leaked version, but the production could been a lot better.

I've just finished listening to this, and have to say, I'm very pleasantly surprised by what I heard. I've always defended the Max-less version of the band for keeping the Sepultura name, even though the Derrick-era has been very inconsistent in terms of quality material. I found "Kairos" to be a mediocre album, and couldn't understand the praise it got, so I went into this one with very low expectations. I think Dante XXI might finally be toppled as the best Derrick-era album, by this one. It actually has THAT Sepultura sound, despite the lower tuning on the guitars. Finally, they've got the mix of experimental and thrash metal just right, and the result is a very enjoyable album to listen to. "The Vatican" in particular might just be the best song the band has recorded since the "Arise" days.

Big, big surprise this album, and fully worthy of the Sepultura name, who needs Max and Igor? lol Oh, and yes... the production could have been better...

Eloy maybe the best thing that happened to them recently I really like the drumming here, it feels different (and to me, awesome)

The production is very strange indeed, but I can deal with it.

obs: "Manipulation of Tragedy" slays.

Igor is a hard act to follow, his unique drumming was a major part of the Sepultura sound during their glory days, but Eloy is an absolute demon behind the kit, and is definitely a worthy successor to Igor.

The worst aspect of the production, is how the vocals have been mixed. They're too low in the mix, and a lot of the time, it sounds like Derrick's singing through a telephone... But music wise, I'm so impressed with this album. I think finally, the band have cast off the shadow of the classic line-up, and made an album worthy of standing up next to their classics of the 80's and early 90's. I think taking Max back now, would be a step backwards, Derrick has matured so well into the position of the band's frontman, and his vocals just seem to get better and better. It's a testament to how good he is, that despite the terrible mix on his vocals, he still sounds great! lol xD

No, I was never going to listen to this album, regardless of its title. I don't like post-(Max )Cavalera Sepultura. However, when I saw that title I couldn't resist expressing my disgust
I can see how that comment could have confused you though, my sincerest apologies

This album tries way too hard to copy the Roots recipe. Comparing it to the other albums released after Max left, it is better, at least it has a couple of good songs compare to albums that were shit from beginning till end (Roorback, Nation).

However, Sepultura still has not escaped from the shadow of their former glory. And seriously, Derrick Green isn't doing a great job as a vocalist either... well, here the production is at fault though.

You know, surprisingly, things changed a little bit for Sepulutra after Igor left. A-Lex and Kairos had some good tunes there and this one proves to be an improvement too, though I would not put it before Dante XXI. By far, what makes this album good is the drumming, which proves that Eloy was a good choice for a drummer.

All in all, this one just gathers the remains of old Sepultura. Recycled thrash, groove and alternative that mostly represents the Roots era. What it misses is the 'new' element. 'Impending Doom' and 'The Vatican' would be good tracks if Green would not sing on them. The only song that detaches itself from the rest is 'The Age of Atheist' but even this one feels like it has been done during the recording session of Roots. Owh, and the colaboration between Sepultura and Dave Lombardo on 'Da Lama ao Caos' is amazing.

This opus proves the continuity of Sepultura without having an impact on the modern metal scene. Not sure if Paulo Jr. and Kisser can pull out some quality out of their material anymore and if they can, this one was not meant to be the proof.

I haven't listened to this, nor have I ever been much of a sepultra fan (Though I do love their cover of Exodus' Piranha)... But of course, the title drew me in. I suppose if the length is enough to interest you *wink wink, nudge nudge* than it's doing its job.

Interesting concept, so-so musicianship and half an album which is actually decent. The other half however sounds like a complete mess to me and just doesn't do the band's otherwise solid instrumentation justice.

One of the best album done by Sepultura after leaving Max Cavalera!!
Just remember the old stuffs, they were great, I miss that vibe too much...
My final rating is "7.4".
Eloy Casagrande (Drums) helps a lot to the energy and creativity of the band and songs.

Totally agreed, this guy's awesome. He's still young though so i predict a bright future for him. He might be one of the best drummers in the world one day!

Definitively one of their best post-Max albums. Difficult to digest with this ultra-compressed, heavy sound, but MAnipulation of Tragedy is awesome.

And live, these songs are great and Sepultura owns any Max Cavalera band any day.

With this one they've reached the level of Arise and Beneath The Remains (a task not so hard to do quiet frankly).

I'm really interested on their next EP.

The fact that this album doesn't have pure thrash metal as [one of] its categorized style(s) tells all you need to know.

One more weak, uninspired, "thrashless" effort by Andreas/Derrick and co.
