Sweden, birthplace of so many excellent Death Metal bands, especially Melodic Death, once again displays a major combo with Amon Amarth. I have to say that I was totally oblivious to the sole existence of that band before having a chance to discover this album. But as if the band was aware of this, they generously included a bonus disc with "Versus The World", which contains a best of their previous albums, and that album alone is praiseworthy. But let's not diverge from our major topic now, namely "Versus The World". The band has been around for quite some time now but this album is their huge breakthrough.

Good album, Death In Fire is incredible.

I found that track and Versus the World very enjoyable, however the rest of the album was rather boring or uninspired

Boring album. Every song sounds the same.

Better than some of the albums that would come later, like Fate of Norns or Odin on Our Side.

One of their better albums, but not so much better as to cause me to rate it above the others. The first two tracks are pretty great, but it goes a little downhill from there.

A great record, it stands as #2 in my list of Amon Amarth albums. It's like a bridge between the older and harsher records and the more melodic works to come. I'm a bit surprised that noone mentions Thousand Years Of Oppression as one of the best songs from this album as it is one my all-time favourite Amon Amarth tracks.
Favourite tracks: Death In Fire, For The Stabwounds In Our Backs, Where Silent Gods Stand Guard, Versus The World, Thousand Years Of Oppression, ...And Soon The World Will Cease To Be.

I don't listen to Amon Amarth consecutively anymore but whenever I do on that certain occasion for specific tracks it's always the emotional ones driven by the rawness of the narrative.

That second half when it picks back up, by the outer gods you can feel the pain and glory while simultaneously swiveling your neck drilling into another galaxy. Something that Entombed and Unleashed failed to achieve.

I may not have the largest collection but I certainly have the absolute best

Not as good as the first three albums, too soft and "safe". A popular record just like Twilight of the thunder god, but not their best.

One of their best albums IMO, better than "With Oden On Our Side".

9.1/10 for me - "Death In Fire" and "For The Stabwounds In Our Backs" are the standout tracks while "Where Silent Gods Stand Guard", "Versus The World", "Across The Rainbow Bridge", and "Thousand Years Of Oppression" are all also fantastic.

One of their best albums IMO

Their very best IMO. It strikes a perfect balance between the earlier, raw melodic DM and the increasingly over produced, commercialised pap which followed.

I think I will go with 9 for this one. A nice mix of crushing riffs, powerful drums, but also somewhat emotional, "epic" feel to the songs.

Definitely one of their best, alot of stand out songs in this one, although some of the songs do start to get a wee bit repetitive. My favourites include "Versus The World", "Death In Fire", "For The Stabwounds In Our Backs" and "...And Soon The World Will Cease To Be". But a special mention for the song "Siegreicher Marsch" from the bonus edition, that song is sheer epic

Yup, this is definitely one of their best. For me the only bigger weakness here is the fact that I've listened some of these songs to death over the years.
