Through the filthy lenses of black metal, death industrial and noise, Gnaw Their Tongues molds and twists itself to accurately portray mankind’s vile nature. There have been many adjustments in sound over the past decade. Despite the finality implied by the title, The Cessation Of Suffering revitalizes the project with rich compositions and inspiring arrangements.

Now THIS is the type of symphonic metal I crave!

"The world is not doing well at the moment [?]" So the explanatory blurb greets me when I look over the promotional materials heralding the latest abomination from Gnaw Their Tongues. This innocent truism comes to us by way of justification for the album's rather dire tone, as if the world smelling of roses would put an end to this nightmare factory.

Musical collaborations. There's so much that can go wrong with them if the parties involved don't know how to properly channel the sacred kundalini energy that allows them to naturally flow into each other's styles. Then again, there's so much that can go right if they do. N.V. is a collaboration between Dragged Into Sunlight and Dutch mad genius Mories in his Gnaw Their Tongues incarnation. You shouldn't have to ask which of those two is the case for this one.

Gnaw Their Tongues has always been my favorite project by the well-known sonic terrorist that is Mories. Reasons are plenty: The overall cinematographic aspect of his compositions; The structures that remain invisible at first but take form the more you listen to the numerous releases; The perfect marriage of black metal, noise, drone, ambient and other nightmarish influences. It's simply put, his most well-rounded project.
