I cannot be very objective with Paradise Lost. It's not just the fact that I grew up with their records, but also that they themselves grew up digging the same music that I did when I was younger.

Medusa
8.7
I have been following Paradise Lost since the Frozen Illusion demo back when there was no internet and we had to rely on scarce metal radio shows and MTV's "Headbangers Ball" for our fix of new music. The band has tried its hand at death, doom, gothic and even electronic styles, but since In Requiem they have been gradually returning to their roots with every release. Medusa is another sample of greatness in a nearly thirty-year-old, more-than-remarkable career.

You know an album is good when you can experience a moment of ?wow" in almost every song. You know an album is great when you experience this even after multiple listens. You all know this band, they play in the highest league of doom and gothic metal and the only question remaining from year to year is if they can take the cake in their genre. In fact, they're like one of those big football (European here) teams where it's only about which of the first few places they will be in by the end of the season.

Although I am a fan of both the doom/death metal Paradise Lost of yore and the band's more recent, electro-synth-goth incarnation, it seems to me that albums after 2001's Believe In Nothing were progressively getting less and less inspired,...
