1999-2006

Biography

1998
OPHIOLATRY is formed firstly with the members Antonio Cozta (bass), Fabio Zperandio (guitars), Jhorge 'Dog' Duarte (drums)
and Tiago Nunes (vocals). The band soon stands out in the Brazilian extreme music scene by creating a sinister and phantasmagorical live atmosphere.

1999
The demo 'OPPOSITE MONARCHY' is recorded and arouses MUTILATION RECORDS interest so as to split a CD with Ancestral Malediction/BR.

2000
'OPPOSITE MONARCHY' is included on RELAPSE RECORDS compilation the 'BRAZILIAN ASSAULT' exposing its music to the European and North American metal music fans.

2001
The band signs with the North American record label Evil Vengeance Records. After the first CD Anti-Evangelist Process recording, the band gets professionally into the Brazilian scene at the renowned DA TRIBO STUDIO produced by Tchelo Martins (KRISIUN and ABHORRENCE). This album was mastered by Erick Rutan (HATE ETERNAL) and the art was featured by Desmond Sia (IMPIETY, PROFANATICA).

2002
'ANTI-EVANGELISTIC PROCESS' is released receiving critical acclaim in the USA and in Europe. Tiago Nunes leaves the band for personal reasons and is replaced by Antonio Cozta on vocals. This change in line-up makes the band grow more unified and willing to gig throughout Brazil in order to make the album known.

2003
OPHIOLATRY records the split album 'MISANCHRISTIANTHROPY' and takes 50-day tour across Europe, gigging and makingthe music known, particularly in Belgium and in Hungary.

2004
DEATHGASM (USA) releases the split album 'MISANCHRISTIANTHROPY' together with INFERNAL DOMINION, becoming a national and international cult.2005
The Brazilian record label MALIGNANT ART releases the split album with OPHIOLATRY and ABHORRENCE.

The band includes a live recording of the music 'OPPOSITE MONARCHY' and a Napalm Death cover - 'Scum'. It is also released in Europe by LISTENABLE RECORDS.

2006
The band takes the second European tour, playing in four major festivals and in various European countries passing by Serbia, Macedonia, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Belgium, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and The Czech Republic together with Sacramental Blood - Serbia. In September, Ophiolatry signs with Forces of Satan Records (Norway) for one more release, the 'Transmutation', wholly produced by its own musicians at Lab 6 Studio and mastered by Infernus (Gorgoroth).

2007
After the release of the album transmutation, the band strengthens on the European and American scene; while in Brazil the expectation grows positively, in spite of low distribution of the album.
2008

The band takes its first national tour in four Brazilian States and in the second term of the year, the second tour is taken with great impression in Brazil and abroad, spreading the album Transmutation.

2009
With wide acceptance, the band takes its third national tour in three major Brazilian States in order to further consolidate the name Ophiolatry.

2010
After the departure of Jhorge 'Dog', the band recasts the style of the music by adding electronic elements on the voice, on the guitar and on the bass, keeping the use of electronic drums. Joining the line-up, Leonardo takes charge of the electronic percussion in order to further reinforce this new style.
