Anthrax - Entering The Studio Soon

Original news, posted on 13.08.2008

Nuclear Blast offered the following update:

"American Heavy Metal legend Anthrax are back and about to enter the studio. Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante has issued the following update: "We're entering the studio in October to start recording. We wanted a Halloween vibe. I wanna do my drum tracks dressed like Ringo."

Furthermore, Anthrax will play their first Korean show ever, playing the Dongducheon Rock Festival."

You can read the full blog by Charlie Benante here.

UPDATE

Here's an update from Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante:

"We have 13 brand new Anthrax songs, we have 4 (maybe 5) B-Sides. The B Sides will be "Brain of J" - Pearl Jam, "Big Eyes" - Cheap Trick, "New Noise" - The Refused, "Running Down a Dream" - Tom Petty, and maybe an Anvil cover - "Jackhammer"? Or maybe an Alice Cooper cover - "We Die Young"?

The new tunes are very strong. We have some old school thrash and some stuff that is like "We've Come For You All" meets "Sound Of White Noise". This record is not forced - it is a very organic and honest representation of where we are as a band and as writers. I hear many things nowadays that sound forced, I ain't digging that. There is a 6-minute tune called "Down Goes The Sun", I believe it is one of my favorite songs. The music itself is epic, it sends chills up my spine. "Face with No Name", "The Devil You Know", "Earth On Hell" - all killer.

"Worship Music" should be out in May. We enter the studio on Nov 4th, the day that change comes, hahahaha."

"Worship Music" will be the first Anthrax album to feature new vocalist Dan Nelson and the band's first album since 2003's "We've Come For You All".

God Forbid - Merauder Cover Song Online

As part of compilation CD celebrating Century Media Record's 20th anniversary, God Forbid has recorded a cover version of the song "Master Killer" originally recorded by legendary and influential NYC Metal/Hardcore crossover band Merauder. More info about that all-cover "Covering 20 Years Of Extremes" compilation here.

Here's what God Forbid guitarist Doc had to say about the track:

"Merauder was one of the first CM bands we collectively got into. Although we're a metal band, we came up in the hardcore scene, so covering Merauder really honored our roots! They were an under exposed band, so we hope to shed light to those who don't know and pay respects to the die hards who've appreciated Merauder all these years. I think people will enjoy this tribute."

Hanoi Rocks - Breaking Up At The End Of The Year

According to their website, Hanoi Rocks have decided to break up by the end of the year 2008. Michael Monroe and Andy McCoy feel that they've taken the band as far as it can go and now wish to go their separate ways.

All commitments until the end of the year, including the UK tour starting in London on Halloween, will naturally be honoured.

In addition, the band has decided to say farewell to their fans by doing a final tour of Japan in the spring 2009 and immediately thereafter wrapping things up with a few nights at the legendary Tavastia Club in Helsinki, Finland where their career originally got started in the 80's.

November 26th will see the timely release of the first ever career-spanning Hanoi Rocks retrospective: a 2-CD set titled "This One's For Rock'n'Roll - The Best Of Hanoi Rocks 1980-2008".

The band wishes to thank all their fans, co-workers and business partners for their continued love and support throughout the years.

Urkraft - New Track Online

Danish metallers Urkraft have posted a new song "The Power To Crucify" from their upcoming third album, "A Scornful Death", on their MySpace page.

The band stated: "So we have decided to upload the first track from the album, "The Power to Crucify", which we think in most ways represents our latest throw-ups in metal and the album. Some might agree and some disagree... When the album hit the streets you can tell us all about it.

We are still searching for a label to deal with. So far the conversations has been good, but nothing really usefull. We'll see and you'll be the first to know.

It has been extreemly difficult to pick out a track and let that track represent the album. The album contains more variation than our last efforts on E.C.S. and T.I.A. and it should of course be heard from start to end. But this it what you get fuckers. Take it or leave it. "The Power to Crucify" is mainly the only track which has been added a keyboard part, so don't get too used to it. The keyboard part is done by our old old keyboarder and good friend of Urkraft, Tommy, and we kept it at that."

Blaze Bayley - New Live Blaze Bayley DVD

This is an update from Blaze Bayley to get you all up to speed on what's happening in the band:

"As already reported on our website and at blazefans.de, we are filming a live DVD at Z7 in Switzerland on 13 December 2008. The show will be the full "The Tour That Will Not Die" set with plenty of new tracks from the latest album, some old favourites and also some brand new previously unreleased tracks.

The first 500 DVD's sold through this website will be strictly limited edition double disc sets, with T-Shirt and commemorative wristband available only with this packaged, signed and numbered (in purchasing order) by the band.

The DVD will also feature extras and highlights from the warm up shows that stretch to The Big Bash. Both Dudley and Z7 are also being recorded for, not only the DVD, but a live album. Jase Edwards will once again be handling production duties. Filming will be done by Kris McManus of Animus Pictures.

The DVD is expected to ship in February to be available for March. Although this is obviously well in advance we have already made presales open in our online store. But don't worry, it isn't "Chinese Democracy".

As mentioned, we have organised some UK warm-up shows, parts of which will also be filmed for the DVD special features. The "Tour That Will Not Die" is stretching towards the end of 2009 and should see us going to places that the band has not yet played as well as revisting our favourite stomping grounds. As soon as dates are completely confirmed we will be posting them online. Brazil has been fully confirmed for January (except for one date still in negotiation) so apologies once again for having postponed those gigs....but we will be there soon."

Exodus - Two Re-Recorded Songs Online

Exodus have posted the re-recorded versions of "Metal Command" and "A Lesson In Violence" online at their official Myspace. The songs come from the bands new album "Let There Be Blood" which is a re-recording of the bands classic 1985 debut album, "Bonded By Blood." The album will be released on October 28th.

Produced by guitarist Gary Holt, the new "Let There Be Blood" CD was recorded at Sharkbite Studios in Oakland, California; JKZ Production Studio in San Rafael, California; with vocal tracks recorded at J. Rod Production Studios in New City, New York. Andy Sneap is currently mixing the CD at his Backstage studio in Derbyshire, England. An October 2008 release through Zaentz Records is expected.

Exodus vocalist Rob Dukes released the following statement to regarding the band's decision to re-record "Bonded by Blood":

"Paul was rad, totally original. He was not like Metallica's James] Hetfield or Slayer's Tom] Araya. I think at times he wanted to be but he was simply himself. He had a really cool way of going up with his voice in the weirdest spots. I, myself, find it cool and original.

I have been singing these songs regularly for three years now and I have totally made them my own but with all the nuances that Paul threw in. I have a different voice than Paul, so it would be kinda stupid to just mimic him, but I definitely bite his style but try to remain myself.

This record is a total homage to him with modern technology and for fun. If he was around, which it is unfortunate that he not, he would be doing this record.

My life is cool now, but it was cool before I joined Exodus; I made good money had a great apartment in L.A. and I traveled everywhere and surfed regularly.

Honestly, I would rather hear Paul re-record this.

I will give these songs all the venom and hate I can give, and it's all for the love I have for these songs and this band. If those out there don't like it, and think it's not good, listen to the original ? it will always stand the test of time."
