Pain Confessor - New Guitarist Announced

Finnish metallers Pain Confessor have announced new guitarist, Tommi Kurki, on their official site:

''Mr. Tommi Kurki has been around since the first gigs of Pain Confessor. In fact, he has been our mainstay Sound Engineer for pretty much all these years. This made the transition from behind the mixer to the frontlines an easy one, and very natural.

He Wasn't Born Yesterday? as a guitarist either. Tommi "Tommi Kurki" Kurki, or The Bullfinch as we like to call him, played guitar in the old Finnish progressive metal band Sancnity along with Pain Confessor producer Janne Saksa. Sancnity's swansong was their excellent early 90's album "Dew".

A multitude of musical paths were ventured after that, a few to mention were as a guitarist in Wooden Bone (Sancnity reincarnate as a more pop/rock-esque band) and as the vocalist for the Finnish punk band Rehtorit.

We are proud to have such a rock-hard extra fist to smash into the collective behind of humanity. This will only make things worse for those against us and add even more spice for those who like what we dish out!

Welcome to Pain Confessor, Tommi! We have been waiting for you.''

Regards,
Rest of Pain Confessor

Apostasy - Busy Recording New Album

Swedish black metallers Apostasy are recording their third full-length album, after almost three years:

"Guitarist Mattias Edin and drummer David Ekevärn have this weekend recorded all the drums for the upcoming album in the Ballerina Studios Umeå. We produce and record everything by our selves this time, so it's gonna be great. The next step will be to start recording the guitars and if everything works out smoothly the entire album will be finished in the end of January. Stay tuned for some sick studio videos and other music stuff. We guarantee all of you that this is the most brutal and technical shit we have ever made and it is nothing like anything we done before!"

Two pre-production versions of some upcoming tracks, called "Gods Assassin" and "The Parasite Swarm" are available for streaming at the band's MySpace.

Apostasy made national headlines in Sweden in 2006 when the group's guitarist Henrik Johansson was stabbed to death by his girlfriend. Read the full story on Blabbermouth here.

The Gathering - New Album In April

Drummer Hans Rutten of the Dutch metal/rock band The Gathering has issued the following update:

"The waiting is over. Well... almost!

We are very happy and proud to announce the release of our 9th studio album in April 2009! The album will be called "The West Pole". You probably are curious who is singing on our new record. We have found a new vocalist, and we will have two guest singers on "The West Pole".

We can imagine people are anxious to hear some of our new music. However, we will not make it to put new songs online this year. The reason is that some of our guest musicians still need to be recorded and we prefer to present only complete version of the songs. As soon as we have mixed and mastered the album we will put some tracks on the web and of course you will be informed with all possible details. We believe, after hearing the new songs, you will agree the waiting was worthwhile!

We are very, very proud and we feel we made something really special. The album is produced by René Rutten, it will contain 9 tracks and will be released on our own imprint Psychonaut Records. It will be a very extravert, rock orientated, alive album. Typically The Gathering, but with many new elements. This time it's absolutely guitar driven. For sure.

"The West Pole" will be available via our own webshop one month before the actual release date. Like our DVD "A Noise Severe" we will make special packages. More news will follow soon."

Alestorm - Enter The Studio

As announced on the Napalm Records website, the Scottish buccaneers have not been idle the past few weeks. Besides an occasional raid and plunder, Alestorm entered the studio to work on new material. The hard work has paid off. Pirate Christopher Bowes has already confirmed the delivery of hymns in the traditional Alestorm style: sing-along refrains, keyboard melodies, heavy guitar riffs, and a full mug of rum! All of that and much more will be found on the upcoming album "Black Sails At Midnight", which will be unleashed upon corsairs and landlubbers in the spring of 2009. Hoist the sails and polish the grapnels.

Pagan's Mind - Working On First Live DVD

Norwegian metallers Pagan's Mind have posted the following tour recap about a week ago:

"We just returned from three weeks of tour craziness along with our friends from Sonata Arctica and Vanishing Point. Thanks to all those guys as well as their crews for a great time with ringing ears, lack of sleep, greasy aftershow food and stress - let's do it again soon!

Anyway, we aim for more exhaustion, and are currently hard at work putting together our first DVD. We filmed our hometown (well, almost) show in Oslo, which went beyond our expectations, and are currently editing this and taking care of the bonus material. We aim for an April release, so be prepared for a real pagan live assault."
