German power metallers Gamma Ray have announced Michael Ehré (Metalium) as the band's new drummer. He will replace longtime drummer Daniel Zimmermann who left the band. Gamma Ray broke the news to a German magazine and made the announcement through a video recorded at the Hammer Recording Studios in Hamburg. You can watch the announcement below.
Kai Hansen stated: "Hi everybody out there! Well, since you've been wondering for a long time what's going on in Gamma Ray, here is some news. You might have heard through the grapevine that Daniel has left the band, which was very unfortunate for us. But I think we found a very good new guy here. And since we've been playing with him quite a while, we can say: We proudly present our new drummer, Mister Michael Ehré! Give him a warm welcome and stay tuned for some news!"
UPDATE: Drummer Daniel Zimmermann has released a statement about his departure through the band's official website: "Dear fans, thank you very much for your never-ending support and the countless magic moments with you during the last 15 years. You are the best! (Eh kloar) Being the drummer of Gamma Ray was an eventful, exciting, challenging and very emotional time and I would never want to miss it. Now it is time for me to try out new avenues. Stay Metal forever in eternity."
According to the band, Dan has left in January to change for a more settled lifestyle that doesn't take him away from home so often.
WTF Dan is a great Drummer, one of my favs, but these news are so simple,i mean the last they could do is give a fair reason or explanation about what happened; however i wish them good luck and great music for the years to come
