In case you didn't know, Metallica debuted a new song this past weekend in Bogotá, Columbia. The eight-minute song is called "Lords Of Summer" and now you can listen to a garage demo version of the track right here. The band just posted the demo on their official YouTube channel and now you can enjoy it.

The band is currently doing their Metallica By Request shows where fans who attend the concerts choose the set list. They also reserved a spot for a new song.

Metallica has been working on their new album and "Lords Of Summer" is the first new material to be unveiled since Death Magnetic and Beyond Magnetic. Do you think the song is promising for what the new album can bring?

Uh, oh, someone don't know how to end..
Daniell - 19.03.2014 at 21:04
Starts drifting aimlessly towards the end, but still, it's quite a decent song.
SelfXPlanetOrE - 19.03.2014 at 21:26
Not a bad as I thought it was going to be, but somehow I know they're going to fuck this up like they always do.
euronymous - 19.03.2014 at 21:35
Bullshits... the song is awful
BynersA7X - 19.03.2014 at 21:54
8 minutes. 8 FREAKING MINUTES. I like long songs but... Oh well, I'll for the full album.

A pretty good assessment IMO.

Hopefully the final sound will be far better than Rubin's on Death Magnetic.
bitethepain - 20.03.2014 at 00:09
Awesome song by an awesome band! Can't wait for their next masterpiece!
afu - 20.03.2014 at 01:09
For a demo, it sounds pretty good. Promising.
AberrantBeing - 20.03.2014 at 01:10
They're getting so old they keep forgetting that they already played the intended riff so they play it again... I think that happened a couple times, hence 8+ minutes.

Makes sense.

I came here to read about Lars' skillzzzzzzzzzzzz, I'm disappointed people.
Dentura - 20.03.2014 at 02:00
It's decent I suppose.
JunN_Vai - 20.03.2014 at 02:49
Promising..... but yes, intro like Blackened, ...AJFA part 2??? since the song The Day That Never Come sounds like One....
SuicidalCyco - 20.03.2014 at 04:33
Not as bad as I thought is was going to be. Definitely better than anything they've released for a long time.
mikeprado30 - 20.03.2014 at 05:21
Nice song, I hope there will be faster songs in the next album
Ace Frawley - 20.03.2014 at 06:32
Way too long for my liking. What happened to the art of writing a 4-5 minute punchy rock/metal song. They've written some awesome longer songs in the past - "Fade to Black", "Master of Puppets" and "One" instantly coming to my mind, but this isn't in the same class. I agree it sounds a bit like "Blackened" a bit there and I was surprised when I looked back and realised that song is over six minutes.
bj_waters - 20.03.2014 at 07:05
Very Death Magnetic (which I liked a lot); I suppose it makes sense. I don't know if this song really needed to be 8 minutes long. Either, they need to spice it up with some new ideas or they need to trim this down to maybe five or six minutes.
AkimHH - 20.03.2014 at 07:11
Please Kirk, stop using that whah effect. Thanks.
DeathSlyzer - 20.03.2014 at 08:27
Hmmm, I don't think the song is that bad. I find it to be quite decent, but still, there's something that's bugging me about it. I feel like some parts are kinda forced, and they could've been written better. The production is also not at the level I wish it would be. Then again, this is only a "garage demo" version, so I guess a lot of things could easily change on the official version.

It's nice of Metallica to share this with us. I just hope they can take some constructive criticism regarding the song.
AngelofDeth - 20.03.2014 at 09:24
Sounds like Metallica but played with the skill-level of 14yr old musicians..

It's definitely got the right "sound" to it, almost sounding classic Metallica which is cool but its just so goddamn boring! They play the same goddam riff over an over and it a sounds too watered-down and simplistic, needs more layers, power and complexity.
Risto - 20.03.2014 at 09:58
It has good ideas for a decent classic thrash song... the only problem is it should be around five minutes instead of eight. It just screams for a guitar solo in place of one of the verses during the first half, to not make the speed become a drag.
Angelic Storm - 20.03.2014 at 11:36
I think this is a very good song, even though it clearly isn't in the same ball park as Metallica's best material in terms of quality. I'd be amazed if this song makes the new album in it's present state, as it feels like it needs some more work to make it into something special. However, there is enough promise shown by this song to make me at least cautiously optimistic for the new album which is on the horizon. There is some good riffs on offer, and I like the solo, but where's the bass? Funnily enough though, this "demo" has much better sound than the final production of "Death Magnetic". Please stay away from Greg Fidelman and Rick Rubin this time guys!
In Bone Factory - 20.03.2014 at 13:46
It is good but as a 5 minutes song. Sounds like something between DM and AJFA. Drums are OK for me and better than what I expected. The only weakness of this song (except its duration) is vocal...
LeKiwi - 20.03.2014 at 14:07
Hmm...there's potential, but it's not that great atm.

I agree.
Butters49 - 20.03.2014 at 14:50
This song is suprisingly great.
I personally did not think it was too long.

Tip of the hat, ol' boys.
tomasmakina - 20.03.2014 at 15:44
Terrible song in my opinion
White Death - 20.03.2014 at 16:13
I was expecting more Metallicrap but it's not that bad
terrorist - 20.03.2014 at 17:44
Some good riffs out there, still hoping to hear better songs on the album. It is long which is good, but not progressive enough for me. The production is unnecessary to comment since it is a demo.
Windir - 20.03.2014 at 20:29
Sounds more than decent... time will tell
unswabbed - 20.03.2014 at 22:50
For a demo, it's sounds good, waiting for more
The Shape 1973 - 20.03.2014 at 23:09
Plod plod plod dull dull dull. Where is the fire of years ago? It doesn't go anywhere, just sounds the same right through. Solo sounds like Maiden rip off at the start, then like any other Kirk solo. God, you were trained by Satch, show some variety. 8 minutes could have been done in three, or not at all.
Akula - 20.03.2014 at 23:30
It´s ColOmbia, not Columbia

It's not 1983-88 anymore.
SSM - 21.03.2014 at 02:13
Boring and generic. It would be a lot better if they skip the guitar solo and interlude all together, it's going nowhere.
Overall, somewhat sounds like Death Magnetic (but the drums sound a little bit better).
Not a great song at all, but not that bad. Average and boring.
Unhealer - 21.03.2014 at 04:44
They've just uploaded the pro-shot version from MetOnTour and it sounds a loooot better.

The song is okay-ish, they really need to trim it down. I'd prefer a better song on their new album instead of this one but I also don't mind hearing it live next week
Cynic Metalhead - 21.03.2014 at 08:38
Not bad, not really bad.

Song is uplifting with some passages goes offbeat, riffs are good, drumming is satisfactory while layering of song is beautifully crafted. Rip off of Death Magnetic but still not at all promising taking this garage version in consideration.

If they pull it off containing songs like this, I'll be happy to see 'Tallica has done some really good work.

Yeah i totaly agree with you.And it definitley sounds better live.
neonxaos - 21.03.2014 at 17:34
Is it just me, or does Hetfield have some of his 80s spark in his voice on this one? Sounds quite oldskool. The song itself is not bad at all, but pretty standard thrash. But hey, that's all right with me, really.
Dave Cerdo - 21.03.2014 at 19:53
Some parts of the song remind me a decelerated Metal Militia. Hope they change/delete the suposed guitar solo-'maidenesque' bridge. It just doesn't fit the song, imo. Anyway, it's not a bad song, no
And it's ColOOOOmbia, sure
Azarath - 21.03.2014 at 21:27
The live version is not bad at all, but hardly spectacular.

I think its the best part of the song.

It reminds me strongly of Don't Fear the Winter by Rage http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2y6Klgcj24E

In both style and subject matter
Darkside Momo - 22.03.2014 at 20:49
Came expecting some mindless Metallica bashing, and well, I R disappoint. Saint Lulu days, where have you gone?

More seriously, while not exceptional, this is surprisingly decent. And as mentioned before, this demo sounds better than Death Magnetic.
Reverend X - 26.03.2014 at 03:37
Hmmmm. decent riffs.

But I don't like the way James sings. It doesn't fit in to Metallica anymore. It now lacks aggressiveness. Just like the way they were before. Is that sign of aging?

They've been experimenting with other genres these days why not come up with a better style that works for them.
