My Dying Bride - To Release EP In November, Drop First Song

Not long after the release of The Ghost Of Orion full length, My Dying Bride are back with the next music output announcement. On November 20th, the six-piece will put out a brand new EP, Macabre Cabaret. Comprised of three new songs, the EP was produced mixed and mastered by maestro Mark Mynett and crowned with an artwork from 'Bunker Artworks'. Today, the band already share a first single and lyric video for "A Secret Kiss".

Singer Aaron Stainthorpe states on the songs: "Macabre Cabaret" delves into the shadow empire of dark love and the consequences of unchecked sexuality. The deep passion of physical desire and its all-conquering rage over pure love is written bleakly here. A destructive essence within the soul can't help but rear its ugly head.

"A Secret Kiss" is the final and lasting mark on the soul any human will feel when the lights have dulled and nothing meaningful remains for them. All religion features a shadow creature who arrives at the point of extinction and the release of the human soul, to either guide them to majesty or allow them do fall eternally into the ether.

"A Purse Of Gold And Stars" is where we keep our hopes and desires and affection, perhaps in a dreamlike state, unattainable yet we still reach out for them. The trinkets and shiny baubles we call happiness and love are what we try so hard to keep close and protect. But it is never quite like that in real life and is often a struggle tainted with sadness but still, we hold the purse close and in tight cold hands."

Track listing as follows:

01. Macabre Cabaret
02. A Secret Kiss
03. A Purse Of Gold And Stars

I don't like this multi layered clean vocals, already featured on the last album. Song is ok.

Paradoxical

MDB has always been my top 5 band but I was extremely disappointed with The Ghost of Orion. Now this new song offers no respite. I just can't fathom the emotions from Aaron's voice on this track and although the duality of clean/harsh vocal is Aaron's staple but he just sounds plain bored here.

I hope the other two tracks aren't a hit and miss trite.

I don't understand how this song was cut from the last album. Was it composed after The Ghost of Orion was recorded?
I kind of agree with that comment on YT saying this beats the crap out most songs on the album.

I love the cover art. and yeah, the song could easily fit the album in place of the 3 fillers they forced in there

I am sure I had read somewhere that they had recorded songs that didn't make it in The Ghost Of Orion and that they would release an EP with them. The song is in the vein of the latest album, not bad at all but not that special either, and it is of course destroyed by Aaron's clean multi-tracked vocals.

Exactly, I can't understand why they start doing that to his vocals.

I have provided a possible explanation in this review. Have a look, if you haven't read it already.
