Hey, guys! Don't you think it's high-time someone started a new topic about one of my favourite (and not only mine, actually) bands - Nightwish?

I adore them - both with Tarja and with Anette!

Well, I think there is not much for me to say, as I've already written most of the things I've wanted to.

So, feel free to discuss things, related to the topic 'Nightwish'.

P.S.: No arguing and offensing, please! Long ago, there have been rules added, which are meant to show what's not to do on this forum.

yes, your comments are brilliantly boring...one line, one statement but there's never a justification...

God, you people are fucken annoying. Do I need to write an essay each time I state my opinion ?

I don't see why I need to justify why I think Nightwish has gotten incredibly boring. I just think everything they released after Wishmaster was merely a bunch of weak albums with one or two stand out track.

I have the feeling that somehow Wishmaster is a bit overhyped....everyone's telling that "Oh, Wishmaster's the best and Oceanborn's good and all the rest suck!"
If to think now....what's so special bout Wishmaster? Wishmaster does have brilliant songs such as She Is My Sin, and Dead Boy's Poem and FantasMic but the title track itself...admit that it's nothing more than a simple HIT....somehow this song became a hit and as everyone knows, this is the most frequently spoofed song ever (it's easy to spoof...righteously so) and even if a person who has never listened to metal nor has no knowledge of Nightwish at all that person still has heard of the "funny as hell" song called Wishmaster....That song is a phenomenon but that's all....to be honest, the guitar solo indeed is annoyingly long and (way too much) tawdry plus the lyrics "Hamster, dentist, hard porn Steven Seagal"...I completely understand those people who claim this to be one of the most annoying and brainless songs ever written....I know several people who enjoy Nightwish's music but when it comes to the song Wishmaster they're all "Dear Lord, only NOT Jewish monster!"
My subjective opinion about Fishmaster is - not bad, but does deserve the critics and it definitely isn't their best song....

I'd say Nightwish's music cannot be divided by albums saying that "this album sucks, this album's great etc"....Nightwish has very strong material which is divided perfectly equally between all the albums they've made.....and let me remind you that for instance their best song Ghost Love Score is from Once (you know the album that's labelled their "cash-grab number one")....
Every album has its fillers and its powerful and brilliant tracks....Maybe their first try Angels Fall First (sic) is a bit shy compared to the orchestrally more profound later works but otherwise everything they've done is good....

Personally, I think that Once is a fantastic album. Every song on the album seems to stand out, not sounding the same as the track before it. And Ghost Love Score is truly inspirational.

I agree with everything. I think they have great songs in almost every album. Maybe the first one is the only one that it's different, but still with some nice songs. The best album...? I don't know, Once is almost perfect, but I think there are some "forgotten" good songs in Century Child and Oceanborn.

And about Dark Passion Play, I still think it's the best album they could do after all. Even if I read that some didn't like Amarnth I don't think is the worst single they have done, and I don't think they would publish it if Tuomas wouldn't like it. The first song is brilliant and like in Oceanborn I relly enjoy with the instrumental one.

We will see with the next album...

I personally find Wishmaster brilliant. Both album and song. Maybe it's a hit, and maybe it's easy to spoof but that doesn't necessarily make it a bad song. On the other hand I frankly can't see why Ghost Love Score is praised that much...I don't find it better than many other songs from NW.
But besides this I completely agree that every NW album have brilliant tracks (and of course fillers)

I agree with Sostoa.I don't think Tuomas would ever say anything like that.Okay, he could have said he didn't enjoy the song that much as (for example) masterpieces like "Ghost Love Score" and "The Poet and The Pendulum".However, I think that someone has just misinterpreted or misrepresented Tuomas' words. :

As for the whole "Wishmaster" album - I find it good but also, quite annoying somehow (maybe it's because of the too 'power metalish' sound which has been captured in this record).I also remember that I read an interview with Marco in a Bulgarian magazine and he said that firstly, he wasn't very sure he indeed wanted to be in Nightwish because of the huge power metal influences of their early work (especially the album "Wishmaster").

The song "Wishmaster" is a very good and catchy one itself.Well, it has been misheard by many people but I don't think that's a reason to judge it being 'stupid, childish, repetative', etc.

No one believes me... Here:

"BW&BK recently caught up with NIGHTWISH keyboardist/founder Tuomas Holopainen and vocalist Anette Olzon to discuss the bands new album, Dark Passion Play. The following is a brief excerpt from the interview:

"The chorus of (new single)'Amaranth', I almost feel ashamed about that," laughs Holopainen. "It's so corny and poppy and annoyingly catchy. I was laughing when I was writing it, thinking 'Oh man, this is going to be something.' The funny thing about the song is that it was going to be the bonus track until the very end. I didn't like the song that much so it was going to be the B-side for the second single, but everybody kept telling me that it was awesome, that it was single material and the catchiest song on the album. I was laughing at myself when I wrote it because I knew it was going to work, I knew it was going to be good and that everyone would like it, but the chorus is just so pop-music.""

i love Nightwish, actually "loveD" would be the word. with Tarja gone i just don't see Nightwish anymore.

don't get me wrong, Annete is good, but she's not Tarja. i enjoyed, loved and literally worshiped Tarja's opera-oriented (lyric soprano, right?) voice. it's just so soothing, so elegant... so (for the lack of a better word) fucking beautiful.

but then they had to bring in Annete and ruin everything for me... still, i have Dark Passion Play and enjoyed some of the songs a little. like Amaranth, Bye Bye Beautiful, The Islander...

so to finidh this off, i still like Nightwish and i still love Tarja

It's okay but Tarja's single band is very poor... if she would find some great musicians around her maybe that band could be as good as old Nightwishwas... sorry I was only dreaming...I know it's impossible to bring back that.

Yes it is good for the metal scene, I agree But, as Janne says in the post above yours, Tarja's solo band is very poor, and I second that. Her voice is as grand as ever, but the music is just terrible with only hints of interesting melodies... If it wasn't for the clean studio sound I don't think I could have listened to it all the way through. It would be great for the metal scene if she could create her own metal identity, with a sound all her own with another great guitarist or synth player. Perhaps in the near future Who knows!? I can only hope.

yeah, that guy (who, coincidentally is named Marcelo, no offence Marcel if you read this ) seems to be a real a-hole.

i'm listening right now to DPP(currently at "cadence of her last breath", it's pretty good, some bits remind me of Once, and there's not enough Emppu! i want more Emppu! Tuomas's melodies are all over the place, not his best work but he's doing great. also the solo on "cadence.." is pretty nice, though kind of short.

aaand i forgot to mention that Amaranth is so far the weakest track on the album, the intro sounds damn poor!

One thing I really like about it is Tuomas' performance, his keys are toned down with no solos of old but they fit really well and add another dimension of darkness to the new sound, that and some of his lyrics on this album are amazing like for The Poet And The Pendulum and For The Heart I Once Had

Those two songs are certainly my picks for best lyrics on the CD as well! There are others, but those really stand out to me. I could care less about the lyrics directed toward Tarja, etc., but the real genuine songs like those show that Nightwish has a lot more to say as a band - I'm sure it will be another year or two before the next album, but I'd love to see where Tuomas takes the lyrics next time around - when he's on his game, he can really bring out emotion with simple, straightforward words.
