Fratello Metallo - Italian Monk Retires From Heavy Metal
Cesare "Fratello Metallo" Bonizzi (born 1946), a monk from the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin who has been performing in recent years as a heavy metal singer, has decided to retire. Fratello Metallo ("Brother Metal"), which is also the name of his band, felt that being in a heavy metal band has made him a celebrity and taken him down the Devil's path. The Devil, he says, has turned him away from his fellow monks and managers, so he had "to kill him." However, Bonizzi asserts that he will maintain his interest in heavy metal.
Since 1990 he has released numerous albums in various styles from new age to rock. After seeing Metallica in concert, however, his passion turned to heavy metal. "Metal is the most energetic, vital, deep and true musical language that I know," says Fratello Metallo. In 2008 he released a heavy metal album under the title Misteri. He cites Megadeth and Metallica as major inspirations on his transformation to metal. His band was the opening act at 2008's Gods of Metal, Italy's largest heavy metal festival.

I always saw him like a cool guy even if the music and the lyrics isn't my thing. What I always found to be a sad thing is that his vocals are quite nice for a 62 year old man. He can put some really nice shrieks/growl like in the moment 00:20 of this song If that man was in a Epic Doom Metal band I would have bought it immidiately...but it was just heavy metal and the musicians aren't that good enough for him. He needed a epic doom metal band for fuck's sake. But yeah, he's kind of cool and nice guy, but not worth the hype at all but I'm glad that a monk likes metal and see it as a good way to live life at full speed. And the music he did was pretty bad... and the imagery was rather pathetic like, "yeah we like metal , UH"

He haunted all major metal festivals in Italy for years. Both singing or coming on stage to talk with performers. At the last Gods of Metal he came on stage during Down's show. You can see him here. People mostly jokes on him and pulls his legs, but he probably missed that side of the thing... I hope he'll quit coming on stage as well as singing, as long as I don't care for all the crap produced on record, but a monk on the stage is pretty annoying!

Ehm and i had proposed this "band" (a live show from youtube) as funny stuff add... It's at least weird to see this! And of course, yes mr. sir devil has turned him away from his fellow men -and monks(!) [at least i hope he finished of the devil  ]Well - retirement,i mean becoming a pensioner is not bad at all.. What i love about this dude is that he doesn't even use the music to promote his beliefs: "I don't play to draw people closer to Christ, to the church or to religion. I do it to convert people to life, to understand life, to savour life..fullstop." Somehow I hope this isn't the last we hear of him. Maybe a spot as a guest vocalist in the next Ulver album?

Maybe you guys don't realise that making this joke play at the most important festival of the country is literally a kick in the face of all the good underground bands that try to make their way the most seriously possible.
