When I fell upon Isis' latest album In the absence of truth in a musical store, I remembered the album also happened to win MS Post-Metal award... And since I've began browsing this genre after discovering Cult of Luna last year, I said: "What the heck, let's give Isis a try!" Well, I'm not used to congratulating myself, but this was a pretty good idea
The album is a bit heavier than what I expected, but still I found it really beautiful and original, and it makes me want to hear more of them!!
Since I couldn't find any Isis thread, I've just created this one to let everyone discuss the band, and I expect recommendations on their previous material I was thinking of giving Oceanic a try anyway.
Isis is amazing. Some people love them, some people don't. I have listened to them for at least 10 years now. In the Absence of Truth is a brilliant album. The Pig Destroyer/Isis split ep was amazing.

In the name of forests; In the name of stars; In the name of all the seas; In the name of storms... Proud sons of ancient nation; Proud sons of sacred song in the wind; Proud sons behind a mirror of ice who told... Fathers of the icy age!!
Pretty bizarre collaboration... I'm not interested in either band but may check this out just to hear what it sounds like.
I beg your pardon? You're not interested in Isis?

Ya I've caught flak for that a few times 'round these parts. I suppose it's just how I was introduced to the genre, with Cult of Luna and Rosetta. Nothing after that has really enticed me.

Same happened to me but with Neurosis instead.

You disappoint me! Nah joking. I know a few people who don't like Isis. I personally think they're the best in this post-metal genre. I haven't heard much Cult Of Luna and Rosetta, so can't comment on them. Which are their best songs to start with?

I don't like Neurosis either. When I started listening to Isis I decided that no other bands can top this. And that's that. Nothing I've heard in post metal has given me the boner Isis has given multiple times.

Hhahhahaha I can recognise those feelings. To me, Neurosis pisses all over this genre.

You guys heard? The ex-members Jeff, Aaron and Cliff recorded an album under the name "Palms" with Chino Moreno from Deftones handling vocals; it will be released this year.
There is a 95% chance that this won't dissapoint.
Oh, I missed that since the discussion went out of that topic My bad.
I wonder if it's going to sound just like Isis with Chino on vocals or if he will actually bring something new to their sound.
Either way it will probably be good.
