A great death band in my opinion. Great growls, and wow, that woman sounds so amazing!

It shouldn't really be much of a surprise that women can do death metal growls...I personally like her vocals better than Liiva...

They will be playing here in Portugal for the first time this month. Anathema also plays in that day.

Unfortunately I can't go and I will feel so bad about that.

Arch Enemy seem to return quite frequently to my city and every time I see them they put on an amazing show which gets me enthusiastic about the band, so I go home and put on an album and I just cant get into it. But then they come back and blow me away again, and the same thing happens. They are definitely a live band for me.

Yes, I get the same feeling everytime I watch their live shows. It's the music, it has a life of its own

Of course I can't compare that to the live experience. When I go to concerts I usually cry, just because of all the excitement.

I cried during "The Rime of The Ancient Mariner" so you see lol

I don't think so, not that I know of at least.

I mean, Rise of the Tyrant is pretty recent.

Here is some more new news about upcoming December tour:

Germany's Leaves' Eyes and Denmark's Mercenary have been added to Arch Enemy's December Tyranny Tour 2008. Also scheduled to appear is Sweden's Sister Sin.

Commented Arch Enemy frontwoman Angela Gossow: "This is a very diverse and exciting lineup we got together for these shows - a truly special run! Not only is this the first time in our history we tour with other female-fronted bands, but we managed to cross over heavy metal, melodic metal, thrash/death metal and gothic metal in one billing. And Mercenary's power metal version of 'Burning Angel' (you can find this on the new Century Media release 'Covering 25 Years of Extremes') definitely got stuck in my ears! Sister Sin is an upcoming, hard-rocking act from Sweden and Leaves Eyes' will clearly be the 'beauty' whilst Arch Enemy proudly represents the 'beast'!" Be there when the revolution begins!"

Oh okay

I don't understand how some people just CAN'T be impressed by Angela's vocals! It's damn impressive how a girl can be "one of the guys" like that.

I think thats the problem, is shes overrated. She is good, but I think if she had a penis then people wouldn't be raving about her. She gets a lot of hype because of that whole "Shes a girl who does harsh vocals! Thats never been heard of!" thing. I like her vocals but I wouldn't go as far as saying they are amazing.

Has anyone got hold of the new DVD? I'll get it for Xmas hopefully

It seems like Arch Enemy is not so popular anymore, I don't know, people aren't paying as much attention to them as they were before "Rise of the Tyrant" was out. That's the impression I get anyway.

I haven't given them the attention I normally would. In fact I've barely listened to "Rise Of The Tyrant" since I bought it. I don't know what it is. It almost seems like a chore to put it on... but then when it's playing I get into the music. I guess it's not quite as memorable as some of their older stuff. Give me Wages Of Sin any day of the week.

I get you. I have mixed feelings about Rise of the Tyrant, I have listened to it several several times. And I never seem to know what it is about it that I don't like, maybe it's the lacking "memorable songs" you talked about.

Sometimes I love it, sometimes I don't, it's a ambiguous album for me.

I always find myself getting into the solos and such in a big way... but then I never remember them afterward, which I find very strange. It's weird one. Perhaps my tastes have just changed over the years.

Tastes do change over the years and oftentimes that explains a lot. It might be a phase too, where you listened to that "particular genre" or that particular band and then it goes away. You lose interest because of a bad album. Well, I still haven't lost my interest in Arch Enemy.

Check out Sceptic, Weronika Zbieg on vocals. The difference is there is actually good music behind her, unlike AE IMO. The problem with Arch Enemy is people listen to the band because someone says "Wow, check out this hot chick- She sounds like a man!"
In reality her growls are sub-par and overrated, like Dr. Rock stated.

But unlike you I did enjoy the new album. And admittedly I did first hear about them because they had a chick singer, one of my friends and I were at a CD store, he showed me a CD and said "this chick can actually do death metal vocals" (being all but 15 at the time I thought this was the bees knees, ended up buying it). That was when Doomsday Machine was just released, turned out to be a pretty boring album save for a few parts...the new one on the other hand impressed me.

I actually only heard the new single and few clips but wasn't too impressed, as I thought my expectations were met. But as you say the album is better than previously thought, I shall give it they ole In-Out-In-Out.

Lol. I suggest going on youtube and listening to the album first (I'm pretty sure they have all the songs up there), because if your talking about that 'Revolution Begins' song then you probably wont like the album, the rest of it is more or less in that vein.

Nah, screw that. I shall go one step above and download the entire album! (JK I saw it at FYE for $5 used so I shall add it to my collection regardless) Even if it fails, I have plenty of albums I don't listen to, strictly for collector's reasons...

Wow, though I don't agree with your opinion on Arch Enemy, that Sceptic song was intense I must admit. Wasn't very familiar with them before.

But ummm with Arch Enemy, the axemanship is what plays a role in what makes them immensely attractive too, at least for me

I certainly haven't lost my interest in Arch Enemy at all. I think because I tend to buy albums in bulk (the last time I went and bought something, I somehow managed to head home with 14 albums!) I sometimes don't listen to albums as much as I should. That's only for the fact that I try to cycle through as much as possible but, as is the case, you get hooked on certain bands/albums/songs. With that in mind I often gloss over a few albums because I'm so enthralled with a particular album or two. I eventually come back to albums though.

A good example would be Arch Enemy's Anthems of Rebellion. I didn't think too much of it either, weirdly enough, but upon rediscovering I enjoyed it. I've never had that problem with Black Earth, Wages of Sin or Doomsday Machine though. Speaking of, I love Wages of Sin - give me that album any day.

Thats why I like them (or the new album more specifically), I think they could replace Angela with just about any growler and it wouldn't make much of a difference to me.

I got into Arch Enemy for maybe a week or so but very quickly turned to better music. They seem to be a take it or leave it band. They have good musicians and a decent enough vocalist but something about them just doesn't stick. eh

Boxing day is coming up soon(its something similar as 'black friday' in america)...and i'm thinking of picking up a few albums by a few random bands. perhaps i'll pick something by arch enemy. any recommendations?

i'm just getting more and more into them, so thats why i ask...rise of the tyrant seems to be their most popular album, but it seems to be a tad radio-friendly...not that it is...

but yeah...

and albums i'd be picking up for boxing day:
nevermore- Dead Heart in a Dead World
nevermore- Nevermore OR Dreaming Neon Black..whichever is available...
black label society- 1919 Eternal
black label society- Stronger Than Death
lamb of god- Ashes of the Wake

maybe something else if its shiny, or catches my attention...

So what you guys think about Mike Amott leaving ESP? which guitar company you think he will choose now?

i'm not sure how i feel about him leaving ESP. i mean, some of my all time favorite guitar companies are as following:
Jackson
ESP
DEAN
Tokai
Carvin

so, really, i dont know if thats a good move for amott to move to Dean. i mean, dean makes amazing guitars. but one thing i dont like about them is that everyone who joins the dean roster gets a custom signature guitar for themselves. regardless of how big or small they are. i mean, look at Trivium, Hellyeah, chris caffery, alice in chains, rusty cooley and all...not that they are bad musicians or anything, but dean should hold some sort of limit as to who gets a sig and who doesnt. i think thats whats amazing about Gibson and Jackson guitars. they HARDLY ever make signature guitars, so it just adds to their name.

a dean ninja? i dont know how that would look. as long as dean gets rid of that fugly headstock, i'm happy.

but it seems, that as of late, a LOT of people are switching over to Dean guitars out of the blue. from a guitar company that only worked for dimebag darell, and absolute obscurity, the company sure seems to be getting a really impressive roster as of late...

I'd say listen to Wages of Sin, that is their most popular album, not ROTT. And maybe their first one "Black Earth" to get a sense of where they come from and where they are now.

Yes, those are my suggestions.

Idk, i would say that ROTT is more popular, simply because it managed to make a dent on the billboard charts. plus, according to Metalstorms results, doomsday machine is the most popular, as it has the most votes..though, wages of sin did get the highest votes.

and from what i heard(which is very limited to youtube and last fm), i think i prefer angela over johan...but we'll see...
