We all use different guitar strings, we all have different opinions, they sound different to us depending on what equipment we have.

So tell us!
- What do you use?
- What do you prefer?
- Why is it you like the kind of strings you use?
- Are they expensive?
- Do they last long?

Commence discussion!

I use D'Addario's. My friend suggested them to me a long time ago, after I used them I tend to notice they lasted longer for me than others I tried out. The sound difference was not by much, but to me they sounded a little bit better than Super Slinky brand. They are like $11 if I remember right, and they last me about 1.5 months!

its also a good idea to wipe the strings down after use- cos i think if u play heaps and dont wipe it down the sweat causes it to rust... in peace

D'Addario's are good, but so are ernie ball. One time I had a Vyntage set on my guitar....

As far as Gauges I prefer, I normally like lighter gauge strings, around the .9 area. It lets my fingers glide easier.

Ha, somehow my friend had these really thick strings and he broke the low E string. Amazing.

I just changed my strings a couple of days ago... I used 0.10's now I switched to 0.9's. They're ok, I guess, nice D'Addario strings.

I had been using D'Addario Nickel Round Wound for years, although I can't recall the string size off the top of my head.

I've recently been playing with a set of Ernie Ball's super light. Hmm..that sentance just sounds wrong.I think I like them more than the D'Addario's since they are alot easier on the fingers, and they're like $6.

Bitter Dawn are you kidding me? you've been using them for years and you can't say what gauge your strings are?

D'Addario's always will and always have been better than Ernie Ball for acoustic. I prefer them on electric too, but not as much as a set of bronze d'addarios on an acoustic compared to a slinky ernie acoustic set.

Most musicians that play with a certain soul in their acoustic or quiet peices that need softness and a warm resonance go for D'addario a la Mikael Akerfeldt and John Petrucci.

There's a reason the Ernies are cheaper. Treat your guitar for once, it's only 3-4 bucks more, and the strings don't tarnish as quickly.

Ether: I just don't recall what they were, I just kept on buying the same package. In all honestly it's a more recent thing for me to take playing/creating music seriously, I think I got my guitar when I was 16 and never took that much interest in the technical aspects in any respect. Being nearly 24 now things have changed.

I may go back to D'Addario when I the Ernie's need a change, I could give their light or super light strings a try.

i'm using jazz strings 0.13. it's a german brand, i've never heard before. i bought them because they have been the only 0.13 strings they had in this store ... but they awesome to play and sound really good, especially when you play in standard c.
i change em every month.

I've really liked the Ernie Ball Not Even Slinkies, but recently I've been using some off brand heavy gauges that've been working alright. The Ernie balls I was using are the heaviest I was able to find and would not go out of tune even after massive abuse. Plus, heavier strings=heavier sound.

I always carry an old cloth with me during the summer. I use it to wipe strings after I play because the sweat can damage your strings.

DR bass strings, roundcore, I think the same ones that Sharlee D'Angelo uses. 45-105. They sound really bright, some people don't like it because it's quoted to have a tone equivalent to a piano haha. I should buy new ones though...

Don't know how DR is with electric guitar strings.

The Guitar String thread came to life very appropriately since my B string has just broken. I gotta buy a new set tomorrow. I have been using Dean Markley Blue Steel (.10-.46).

well, you might try Ernie Ball custom gauge(the light green/yellowish pack), they've never let me down, i'm at the second string set, haven't changed them in ages lol. bought the first one in april last year if i remember correctly, then changed them in august(no, they didn't break) and i've had the same set ever since(on average i play about 20 minutes/half an hour a day)... they still sound good too.

I have noticed many people mentioning these strings, but I've never seen them in Ukraine. One guitar player, whom I have met recently, told me to buy everything in the US, even the strings... 'cause we have a lot of fake stuff here. I have just put Dunlop Zakk Wylde Signature Series... I like them so far (at least I love the sound of the new strings)

they are just normal. but the low E string is, I guess, kinda thicker than the regular .46 should be. oh, and the envelop for each string says, "electric AND acoustic strings" so actually the unplugged sound is great.

well if i remember correctly all electric strings work on acoustic, but they might not work that good.

@arian i think 0.13 7-strings would work quite good with what you want

I'm waiting for you! Songs are in Russian but under the translation screen you will be able to find English translations (without rhyme). Now I post two translations so you can read it and understand what my songs are about (all translations by Marina Rabinovich) Here they are:

A lot of numbers on a Swiss bank account

A lot of numbers on a Swiss bank account.

A fat, lazily seeking ideas.

Shall I maybe play you a guitar,

So that it becomes more lively?

Clubs, restuarants, hotels,

Fashionable talk shows and films

How bored you are of them.

Sing about how difficult it is to

f**k all the time.

What is conscience?

It got blurred in the fires of a scene.

Everything is in chocolate foam,

You are homeless in fame and hits.

=========

A mystery of tender feelings

What do you know about the mystery of tender feelings?

what is there inside? O, how empty is their world.

Do not look there. Their world will kill you.

Their colour is darker than a dirt.

Wordless power,

They will come to you though blood and sunshine.

They will come to you.

What did you see in a window of your love?

Fear or nonsense will extinguish your light.

Do not look there. Their world will kill you.

Their colour is darker than a dirt.

Wordless power,

They will come to you though blood and sunshine.

They will come to you.

I love you so much, I love you so much but, believe,

I do not need you at all

But come to me, I want you, I want you so much

What is going on with you?

Saying once again, you are in a hurry to come to her

Why are you going there? She will kill you

Love is darker than dirt,

Wordless power.

Through blood and sunshine it came to you again.

If you come, please, post your comments during the concert. It's VERY IMPORTANT for me.
