This is the first Progressive metal album I fell in love, instead of another snooze.... like Opeth. "Chance" and "Symmetry" are outstanding.

For those that are interested, there is a (rare) uncut version of the song Handful of Rain. Has an extra verse in the beginning. Its on youtube here:

Not sure if it was ever released on any record. It didn't come with my copy of Handful of Rain.

That's pretty cool. Where was that version released?
I've always felt this was somewhat of underrated album. There's some dips in quality here and there but overall it's very enjoyable and way more consistent than Edge Of Thorns.

And what do you call assassins who accuse assassins anyway, my friend?

This is a masterpiece, by an outstanding band.
It is the best Savatage album for me (Streets closely following).
It has some weaker songs but there are also three of my all-time fav prog metal songs to find here (Chance, Castles burning and Alone you breathe).
The excellent chorus on Chance they kind of managed to do again with their brilliant Morphine child on PAM.
These two epic opuses being my fav Savatage songs.

One of those Savatage albums that doesn't quite manage to deliver. I can see what they were trying to do here and musically it's somewhat interesting an attempt, but I'm not very fond of the resulting songs. A couple of the songs stand against the overall mediocrity by being actually very good: "Chance" and "Alone You Breathe". Well, I can't say that I'm a huge fan of the album and I don't listen to it pretty much EVER.
I'm puzzled by fact that why there's no Jon on vocals, as IMO, he is the true voice of Savatage

Jope of Steele, best commentator on Savatage albums. I don't think I will ever listen to this album again.

I am actually the best commenter on heavy metal albums in general this world has ever seen, people just didn't get the memo about it yet

This was the first Savatage album I heard, and it's not until I listened to a few others that I realized how different it is from the rest of their discography. In general the only other album I can think of that is remotely like it is Ki by Devin Townsend Project, with the mixture acoustic blues and progressive metal. I think Handful of Rain did it better though. I guess Kings X might have also have done something similar, but I haven't listened to enough of them to confirm.

It's alright. Some good moments, but I definitely prefer the vocals on Hall if the Mountain King
