Following a lot of praise for their two preceding albums, frontman Zachary Stevens and his Circle II Circle returns with a different approach that should please both Savatage-enthusiasts as well as draw new fans. "Burden of Truth" is actually based on the same themes as the highly successful book "The DaVinci Code" by Dan Brown: the dark secret of Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene. If you're not into concept albums you need not worry because the message is hidden deep in the lyrics and there are no narrations or interludes, just some straight metal songs from start to finish.

Funny enough Circle II Circles best record was released after Oliva and Caffery stopped writing songs for them. This is a masterful record with smashing hooks and lead guitars. The songs flow extremely well into each other and it never lets go of the musical red thread. The lyrics are loosely based on The Da Vinci Code, I have a hard time though connecting the lyrics with the book but that doesn't matter. In my teens this was one of my go to records and while I don't listen to it as frequent it's still just as good.

Oliva and Caffery were guests on the debut album, I doubt they wrote the music. Yes, Stevens here more or less continues the sound of Savatage when he was in the band, but it's still enjoyable.

All the songs on the two first records are written by either Oliva or Caffery along with Zack. If you got the booklet you can check it, so yeah it's kind of natural that it continues the Savatage legacy. This one is the first where CIIC wrote everything by themself, but of course it still sounds a lot like Savatage. Not as heavy though.
