I thought about 7-8/12 proper songs were really good. Nice use of keyboards and orchestration without going all out, excellent guitar solos and vocals.

Cutting tracks 11-13 would greatly improve this album imo. It's pretty consistent up to that point.

Max 40 minutes,

I personally don't mind long albums at all as long as the style justifies the length. I can easily stomach 1hr of this music but it's not without obvious filler.

I feel like 'symphonic metal' gets used pretty generously for some bands that basically just have some keyboards but get the tag for having a female singer (operatic or not), such as Everdawn and Nocturna, but for these guys, I feel like I hear barely anything that could be considered symphonic? Just feels like alt or prog above anything else (it goes from Amaranthe to VOLA in the span of a song with Here We Are into Cyclone) - not that it's relevant to enjoyment of the album, which is fine, if a bit dull

Kind of dull and very generic.

I've long considered bands like this a "gateway drug" to metal. They have the heavy sound, but they sound uninspired for the "trained" metalhead. But to a new-comer, could be something more. Better than listening to mainstream modern crap anyway.

I do understand the criticisms, but I've been spinning this repeatedly, and I just love all the songs now. I don't have a problem with this style, but it rarely keeps me captivated, so this album seems to be right in my niche. 2024 is looking like an excellent year, it's definitely on track to being better than 2022 and easily 23.

I think you and I must have similar tastes. I always tend to really like your top 10 albums. I really liked this one. I admit, probably slightly biased because I really like Fabienne Erni's vocals but still, I thought this albums was very good and enjoyable.

I'm glad to hear that! Fabienne is easily one of my favourite female vocalists in music, but I just love how this band writes their songs, everything about it is very pleasing to me.
