Between 2022’s EP II and their full debut The Scorching Gaze, Urzah self-imposed moniker ‘earthy noise’ has been rebranded as ’earthen heaviness’. It’s a logical revision, as Urzah’s music is plenty heavy, and plenty more than mere noise.

This is indeed very good, and I'm getting some strong Mastodon - Leviathan vibes.

Have to disagree with you there. Leviathan is one of my all time favourite albums and nothing here reminds me of that album. Sure, they're trying to mimic a couple of Mastodon riffs here and there but that's it. It's definitely not a bad album though, but comparing it to Leviathan? Sorry, not in my book at least. But I'll enjoy it for what it is, a pretty good sludge album

Although I can definitely hear some Leviathan influenced riffs here I must say your right that this album has nothing on Leviathan. That album is simply out of this one's league.

I personally get Leviathan vibes (or specifically Iron Tusk vibes) on Thera I: Sea Of Flames, but yeah in general I'd say it's got more in common with other more recent prog sludge acts

That was the one song I thought was mimicking Mastodon and after another listen you're right. It's reminiscent of Iron Tusk at the end. But that's about it.

Post-metal with hints of early Mastodon? Ok you got me intrigued.

Edit: I don't really feel much of a Mastodon vibe personally, lacking that certain drum flair. I suppose there's a lot of hardcore influence though but regardless this is a very strong debut album! I like it a lot, it's super fun.
