Tzompantli’s sophomore album shows improvement on all aspects that were rushed or half-baked on their debut. With Beating The Drums Of Ancestral Force, the band unleashes an ideal mix of D-beat-laced death metal and crushing doom metal that perfectly matches the disturbing images of Aztec human sacrifices.

Now I gotta check this one out! Awefully quiet around here though, surprising.

This hits all the right spots for me. Primal, groovy, atmospheric. Love it.

The first album by these guys was disappointing, hoping this one will be an improvement.

That was more or less the feeling I had with the debut which I reviewed. They nailed the vibe and production. But the songs themselves were one-dimensionsal and boring. I would have given it an even lower score now. Guess I really wanted to like it at the time. But somehow I have faith that they will step up on this one! Fingers crossed!

This is one of the biggest surprises in death doom for me this year. The thunderous tribal percussion, the devastatingly crushing tone, and those insanely convincing growls make this a thing of such Mesoamerican ritualistic horror!

Ooo I really like this. This is right up there with Void Witch for my favourite death-doom albums of 2024.
