Dolorian is a band coming from the cold and sunless Finland moving in doom/black soundscapes and being one of the most innovative acts in this genre having their very own twisted, desperate, cold identity. The hopeless title of their debut album, "When All the Laughter Has Gone," along with its grey to black cover with the expressionless figure with a cold stare prepare you for what will follow, the cold touch of Death caressing your skin, the grey silence dancing macabre in front of your very eyes as the doleful guitar riffing and guitar chords, the pulsating nocturnal rhythm section, the twisted desperate keyboard melodies and the unearthly FX accompany the eerie screams of A. Haapapuro that seems to be living the bleak esoteric lyrics screaming from the core of his soul where black orchids of pain blossom darkening his inner horizon.

I seriously think that keyboards used are very cheerful and even cheesy at some points, for this type of music. This album gets extra points from me because its leads remind me (very slightly) of Virus, but that's it for me. An average record at the best.

I love the mysterious atmosphere of this album. Haven't heard anything quite like this, so it's definitely original stuff. Note that actual listening is required in order to experience this album like it's meant to. To sum it up: excellent debut.

Well, can't say I agree at all. But I recommend you to check out their other two albums. All three of their albums are very different to each other. I personally prefer their last one.

I did not say that it's unoriginal. It did not work for me. I also find that mysterious moments you point to be too cheerful sometimes.
Finally, I've given this TWO actual listening. Not sure what you are implying here.

I will check them out, thank you. Based on what I've read about this band, I think I'd prefer their latter materials.

I meant that this isn't the right music to use as background music or music you listen to while studying, for example. Also, I can't say I agree about some moments being cheerful, but that's subjective of course.

Haven't heard their 2nd album yet (I ordered it a few days ago, along with a bunch of other albums), but so far I think this one is much better than Voidwards. To be honest I don't expect mz to like Voidwards either. Then again, it doesn't have those "cheerful" moments like this one has.

I do, considering his comments about Virus and similar music. I think he'll prefer the style of Voidwards more. Personally, I consider it a more intriguing album.

We'll see. Voidwards was a lot harder to get into for me. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if I spin it a couple of times more my opinion can still change.

A tad, although I find this to be quite a bit better than most of the material Forgotten Tomb have every released.

This is definitely the more mysterious band, but Forgotten Tomb's debut and Love's Burial Ground are possibly my favourite releases in the "blackened doom" sub-sub-genre (maybe along with 'Dark Metal').

'With Scorn / Perish' comes pretty close to matching them though.

Nothing can be better than Love's Burial Ground or Negative Megalomania.

Negative Megalomania.

There I have to disagree quite a decent album, but too much Katatonia and Paradise Lost worship and not enough classic Forgotten Tomb for me. Still a good record though.

It's one of my few 10s Perhaps because I never heard katatonia and almost never listen to doom stuff such as Paradise Lost, then the record seems original for me.

Perhaps because I never heard katatonia

You should really go listen to Dance of December Souls, Brave Murder Day and Viva Emptiness (though it's mostly 'Brave Murder Day' Forgotten Tomb ended up basically copying, like sooooo many other bands have. You should listen to those 3 albums because they're all awesome and different (and highly inventive with regards to 'Dance...' and 'Brave...' pretty much pioneering the blackened doom and melodic death doom sounds.)
