An open letter to DEATHCORE

Dear Deathcore,

I know we didn't always get along so well. We both have our own feelings and opinions. But I think that's normal. There were times where I called you all sorts of bad names. Which is in retrospect also normal seeing you released all sorts of shit albums. Anyway, the last couple of weeks I had to change my mind about you. First there was the new Ion Jizzonance album - truly one of your greatest works to date - and now you send El Comer Ocho my way to bitchslap some sense into me. And for that I want to thank you... brah!

A shame the overall score got tanked due to a vote abuser cuz this is some some excellent deathcore, released at a time where the name of the genre alone made people cringe.

I remember Thryce' review made me laugh a lot when I first read it. I just discovered Ion Dissonance at the time (also thanks to him) so I told myself to find the album and check it out. I never did.
Until now that is. Found it pretty cheap at the Season Of Mist store and boy I'm glad I got it. Some of the genre's tropes are present of course but the breakdowns are tastefully placed in the songs and the thrash/hardcore vibe of the riffs slays so hard. I'm a bit unsure about the clean-ish vocals that gave me a bit of a 2000s metalcore vibe but thankfully they are rare and the guy's screams are awesome. I especially like how some of the high-pitched screams are borderline screamo at times due to how hateful and desperate they come across. Also kudos for the French rap section and the ambient interludes.

The whole thing is on bandcamp, which is the only place I can find the album atm. Weird thing that you can't buy the album digitally unless you buy each track separately. Guess it's a bug they never fixed. Anyway, hope some other people who are not afraid of the genre will give this forgotten album a chance (those who like Despised Icon for example should check this out). Definitely among the best I've heard in the genre from that decade.
