Merrimack - The Acausal Mass

I'm curious about this album.

Well this album is rather pleasant, it has that French sound and holds certain similarities to BaN and Reverence but it's more straight forward BM and doesn't wander far from the confines of the genre. highly recommended

Actually it seems the BaN artwork and the Merrimack artwork were done by the same guy: Daniel Valencia of Fenomeno Design.

Am I the only one that hears a little bit of DO on this album? I'm not saying it's a bad thing (it's actually good) I just don't want people to think they're ripping off another great French BM band...

Indeed good stuff here, the best thing they ever did.

Not feeling the greatness described by others to be honest. Definitely a serviceable black metal album with a cold atmosphere, but nothing to get overly excited about.

Looks like a complete rip-off of BaN, hopefully the music will be too

Oh, I am overwhelmed by amount of good BM I'm checking lately (mostly because of recommendations on my BM list). This stuff is indeed good and as stated before, it resembles BaN and Reverence. I guess this album was somewhat overlooked (not on MS maybe) because it was released in the same year that reverence pulled out their masterpiece.
One more thing: I never expected to hear Iranian traditional music in a French black metal album (the acoustic outro of Hypophanie). It was definitely a good surprise.
The major weak point of this album is vocals: I prefer shrinks to shouting type extensively used here
