I don't know if Marshalls have improved but the first line of those I used to own turned out to be dreadful and muddy in retrospective. You realise that when you switch to something better.

That's how I ended up with Bose - after I broke my Sennheisers, I thought I'd just take a newer model, but its sound was awful and I chose from other options that the store had. :)

One important thing that I realized when I last had to switch headphones is that you need to listen them yourself before buying anyway. Even the next model index in the same line by the same brand can sound drastically different.

You might still find sealed "new" boxes with old models on sale somewhere. I actually got a second pair of these same Bose last year like that (although my first one from maybe 10 years ago still works).

I used to enjoy Focals in that price range until the headband broke on mine. I'm not sure they have anything priced like that, though.

Of course, sound is different with/without noise cancelling. And that can only be enabled in wireless mode as far as I remember (haven't used them with cable for a long time).
