Biography

With an interest in the Second World War, and its effect on Europe, Eastern Front were interested in exploring the history, through music; and from a subjective, personal and emotional, point of view.

Eastern Front takes a new approach to Black Metal - which has been labelled "War Torn Black Metal". Musically, they retain a traditional Black Metal sound but experiment with other genres, like doom, death, folk and classical, to create a range of different atmospheres in their songs. Each song evokes the emotional experiences of battle, encompassing hope, pride, comradeship, misery, sorrow and victory.

Within a few months of forming, Eastern Front recorded a demo CD, Promo 2007, to get other people's opinions about the music. Due to the decision to release the tracks and market the CD online, the CDs (limited to 350 copies) quickly sold out and the overall response was extremely positive. This encouraged the band to start working on further material to create a live set and tour.

In the meantime, the demo tracks, and the further release of the demo track "Blood On Snow" raised the band's profile to the extent that they beat over 150 other bands to be voted "The Metal Underground's - Best Unsigned Metal Band 2007".

"Blood On Snow", the title track from the debut album, was inspired by Gunter K. Koschorrek's book Blood Red Snow: The Memoirs Of A German Soldier On The Eastern Fron". The demo version of the song was recorded on Remembrance Sunday (11th November) 2007; and along with its promotional video that has been played on American TV channels, was responsible for generating considerable interest in Eastern Front at an early stage of their career. This included featuring in Zero Tolerance Magazine, being asked to include the track on the Metal Hammer Magazine and Zero Tolerance cover mount CDs; and gaining airplay/features on several radio stations, including Total Rock Radio, ICR FM and BBC Radio.

Eastern Front have toured throughout the UK & Europe playing various shows andfestivals, including Bloodstock Open Air (UK), Dong Open Air (Germany), Chania Rock Festival (Crete, Greece), WOTU Festival (France), Candlefest (UK), Chaos Fest (Romania) playing along side and sharing stages with: Behemoth, Carpathian Forest, Watain, Mayhem, Endstille, Shining, Primordial, Taake, Inquisition, Nile, Anaal Nathrakh, Belphegor, Cradle Of Filth, Dimmu Borgir, Alcest, Negură Bunget, Nargaroth, Lord Belial, Graveworm, Skyforger, Hate, The Rotted, Alice Cooper, W.A.S.P., Orange Goblin, Napalm Death, Sepultura, and many more. They have also headlined various shows and festivals in the U.K & Europe, including The Underworld in Camden; constantly gaining themselves very positive reviews in major Magazines and Webzines.

Eastern Front's music also features in the Vertigo Films production "Faintheart". The film was released in UK Cinemas in January 2009, DVD in February 2009 and then shown on Film4 throughout 2010. "Blood On Snow" also features on the soundtrack album released by EMI Records, alongside songs by Saxon, Human League, Tenpole Tudor and Katie Melua.

Eastern Front's debut album, Blood On Snow, was recorded at Andy La Rocque's (King Diamond) Sonic Train Studios in Varberg, Sweden and was produced by Anders Backelin (Lord Belial) in March 2010.

Eastern Front then signed to Candlelight Records in May 2010, who released the album on 13th September 2010. The album features a track by Les Smith (Anathema) and Brian Moss (DFA) titled "Dvenadtzat Kilometrov ot Moskvy" and received extremely positive reviews in major Metal Magazines and Webzines worldwide, including 9/10 in Powerplay Magazine, 13/15 in Legacy Magazine, 8.5 in Terrorizer Magazine and 4.5/6 in Zero Tolerance Magazine.

Eastern Front have featured in Terrorizer Magazine, Metal Hammer Magazine, Zero Tolerance Magazine, Legacy Magazine (Germany) and many Webzines worldwide, various times throughout their career, steadily boosting the bands profile and gaining a very loyal fan base.

Most notably, founding member/guitarist, Holocaust, was invited to be a part of Metal Hammer's Masterclass and interviewed Silenoz from Dimmu Borgir at Bloodstock Open Air, leading to a 2-page feature in Metal Hammer Magazine promoting both bands.

The release of "Blood On Snow" and the bands constant barrage of dramatic, brutal live shows also led them to endorsement deals with Jackson Guitars, Fender Guitars, EVH Gear, Peavey Amps and D-Drum.

Eastern Front have had various line-up changes throughout their career causing delays on the recording side of things but positively causing the band to go from strength to strength and improve their ranks.

Following a successful headline tour of the UK at the end of 2013 (sponsored by Terrorizer Magazine) Eastern Front entered HVR studios in Ipswich to record their second album for Candlelight records entitled Descent Into Genocide.

Recorded and produced by Danny B (Lock Up/Pentagram/Criminal) Descent Into Genocide (The title track inspired by the Babi Yar massacre of 1941) follows on directly from "Blood On Snow" in its brutal intent, while expanding the bands musical and lyrical range to include varying vocal styles, musical instruments and a guest vocal performance from Zingultus (Endstille) to produce their most visceral and heartfelt release to date.

Descent Into Genocide was released on the 28th of July 2014 through Candlelight Records. For this release the band created a Limited Edition Boxset, which sold out to their dedicated fans in less than a week. Eastern Front then donated 10% of the profits made from the boxset sales to the charity; Help For Heroes. With just a few days gone since it's release and their album launch show in London, the album is receiving extremely positive reviews, including 4K's in Kerrang! Magazine.
