After years of silence US doomsters Confessor have confirmed to play live at next year's Maryland Deathfest. The band will also release a demo collection/archival DVD, entitled Uncontrolled.

The band issued the following statement: "Confessor is excited to announce that the band is back in action and we have been confirmed for the 2012 Maryland Deathfest next year. Rehearsals have already started and we hope to play a warm-up show in Raleigh prior to the MDF appearance. We still have some limitations with Scott living and working in China but it looks like he will be able to spend some more time in the States next year.

The current project Far and Away featuring Steve Shelton, Chris Nolan, and Brian Shoaf from Confessor will continue to write and record and Cary continues playing with Parasite Drag.

Besides the appearance at MDF the band, in conjuction with reissue specialists Divebomb Records, are putting together a demo-collection-and-archival-DVD set entitled Uncontrolled. This will be the first time that all three legendary Confessor demos are made available commercially. The DVD will contain archival footage collected by the band with additional material supplied by die-hard fans.

In additional to audio and video content, Jeff Wagner (author of Mean Deviation: Four Decades of Progressive Heavy Metal) has contributed a brand new essay to go along with pictures the band has unearthed for the deluxe booklet. Release date for the set is undetermined at the moment, but Divebomb Records hopes to have it available by year's end."

The tenth edition of the Maryland Deathfest will take place May 24-27th at Sonar in Baltimore, MD. The bill so far includes names such as Morbid Angel, Electric Wizard, Saint Vitus, Morgoth, Suffocation, Negură Bunget and Bethlehem, among others. According to Blabbermouth, vocalist Scott Jeffreys has left the Raleigh, North Carolina-based progressive doom metal band Confessor "due to job demands." Guitarist Brian Shoaf tells Blabbermouth.net in an e-mail, "We are currently entertaining the idea of continuing but are not sure what we are going to do. If you could get the word out that we are looking for a singer we would greatly appreciate it. Those interested can inquire to Brian Shoaf at: astrokin [at] bellsouth [dot] net. We are not a working/touring band, so keep that in mind."

The following message was posted on the Label site concerning the deal with Confessor:

"Season of Mist is proud to announce the signing of the progressive doom-metal legends, CONFESSOR! Emerging from over a decade of hibernation, the band has returned to form, hungrier and more focused than ever.

Once dubbed, "The world's most obstinately technical metal band", CONFESSOR will again continue to make the words "heavy" synonymous with "progressive" and "provocative" in an effort to challenge and inspire their listeners.

As a precursor to the band's upcoming long player, "Unraveled", due out in early autumn, Season of Mist will release the limited edition CD-single, "Sour Times". Scheduled for a June release, this soon-to-be collector's item will mainly be made available for purchase to the die-hard fans. The release will contain 2 new songs; "Sour Times" and "Hibernation", a radio edit of the title track plus a live video! Also included on the limited CD with be PC Interactive gems such as band photos, a screen saver and more! Already listen to an extract of "Sour Times" here

"Confessor has always been a pillar for top notch 'complex riffing' and amazing drumming with the guts to have a vocalist who sings how he wants to, ignoring any trends for over a decade now..." ~ Philip H Anselmo - SUPERJOINT RITUAL / PANTERA

"So f*cking heavy, sophisticated and tasteful, the crème de le crème. They were 10 years ahead of their time! Godly!" ~ Karl Sanders - NILE

"Like a fucked up mix of TROUBLE and WATCHTOWER, CONFESSOR raped my ears in the early 90's - I am glad to see them back!! ~Michael Amott - ARCH ENEMY"

The doom american band is back, there are some words from Scott Jeffreys:

"Hi everybody, how's it going? We just wanted to let you know that we are signing a management contract with a company based in Raleigh, NC. They are the same company who used to manage Corrosion Of Conformity. The company will shop our demo which is already getting a big buzz out in the public and at some labels. We have had a premixed version of a song from the demo entitled, "Sour Times" up on our music page for the last month. The response has been amazing!!! We have now upload a final mixed version of another song from the demo entitled, "Blueprint Soul". Just wanted to update everyone on the latest news and the heads up on the new song up on the website!!! Thank you so much for your support, we truly appreciate it."
