The following piece of news was posted on the Earache Records' Facebook page:

"We've just heard that David Gold of Woods Of Ypres passed away last night in an accident near Barrie, ON, Canada. From all of us at Earache our deepest sympathies to your family, bandmates and friends. We are all devastated, such a terrible waste of talent. R.I.P. David."

This is fucked up. Hopefully not the means to an end for this great fucking band.

I for one hope it does mean the end for this band. Dave Gold was almost the exclusive song writer, anything that carries on without him won't be WoY.

This is one of the more surprising deaths. They had tour plans, they are releasing another album while showing the songs, and the part where David Gold dies wasn't supposed to fit into that. I want this to be fake, but I know that it isn't. I'm genuinely surprised and disheartened by his death. Requiescat in pace, David Gold; thanks for the music.

Sad news.
At least it looks like a car accident and not one more death caused by drug abuse.

Death's like these are far worse, as the drug abuse ones are self inflicted.

It is terrible news, especially for his family and bandmates.

To those asking how it happened
when i first heard the news yesterday morning that he died in an accident near Barrie (an hour north of Toronto), my first thoughts of were how Hwy 400 & 89 were closed for hours due to a fatal accident
a Barrie newspaper confirmed David was walking along the highway and was hit by a truck

Indeed. In the case of drug abuse, you can say that the person was aware that drugs are bad for health and kinda 'digged his own grave'. Something we can't say about an accident (in this case, a guy hit by a truck).

I know nothing of this band, to be honest, but I find the circimstances of the death sad.

In my original comment, I was going to say something about this song being darkly ironic, considering the circumstances; I forgot to do that however. That was the last Woods of Ypres song I had listened to before he died, and it had just become available to the public. Again, he should rest in peace.

A message from David's sister:

Daves fans and friends: I have had many heartfelt messages send my way about my brother and how he has impacted their lives . I appreciate each and everyone who has reached out to me. The celebration of Davids life and music will be in Sault Ste Marie, 1:00-6:00 at the Canadian Motor Inn. As i realize that many of you will not be able to attend, I found a way for each of you to be involved at his service. If you would like, please send me an e-mail at [email protected] and please include your name, and a brief message on how David has impacted your life, a memory you shared together, quote, lyric that reminds you of him etc... If you have a photo together with him, send that as well. I will print this off and have it at David's party so everyone can be there in spirit. His family really likes reading these, and we would appreciate it.
