Metallica - Premiere New Single 'Lux Æterna', Announce Album

Metallica have lots of news to share today. First, they present a brand new single/video called "Lux Æterna". The latter will appear on the band's upcoming full length offering, 72 Seasons, due on April 14th 2023. The successor to 2016's Hardwired... To Self-Destruct will be comprised of 12 new songs and more than 77 minutes in total. Alongside new album and first single announcement, Metallica also reveal a world touring plan.

“Is there a special meaning to the title?” you ask. James explains it best: "72 seasons. The first 18 years of our lives that form our true or false selves. The concept that we were told ‘who we are’ by our parents. A possible pigeonholing around what kind of personality we are. I think the most interesting part of this is the continued study of those core beliefs and how it affects our perception of the world today. Much of our adult experience is reenactment or reaction to these childhood experiences. Prisoners of childhood or breaking free of those bondages we carry."

Directed by Tim Saccenti

A bit of fun:

The song in question looks like it's from a 2015 album, but it's actually much older, as it was first released in 1985.

Fun fact: the band in question, Kat, supported Metallica in Poland in 1987 (Feb 10 and 11).

This music is so fake, soulless and corporate that they might as well play this in the elevators, at least at Blackened recordings...Or in their garages because I am sure they have elevators there as well.

Now, these are hardened people who know the world, who traveled the world 1000 times over and who now cry on stage over "mental health" issues? And now we have their 72 seasons of corp tralalalala bs.

Give out few of your millions to the poor and sick out in the world and you might get better. Mentally.

Indeed their last honest album came out 34 years ago.

Actually they do give to charity, but they don't make a fuss about it.
I still don't understand how they are fake or dishonest. If one dislikes their later day music, that's fine, but calling them dishonest or fake, that's a totally different thing. I don't get it.
I will say I think Death Magnetic is rather average and Hardwired... a bit uneven, so I'm not singing their praises.

Sad to see this idols copying riffs but that doesn't suggest or support the amount of hate spat on Metallica through MS. I am pretty sure that even if they come out with another Master ofvPuppets in 2023, MS users wouldn't give a shit and nothing more than a 7/10 rating. So let them go on and if you wanna take it, its fine or just leave.
Btw....the track sucks...🤦‍♂️

In the beginning I was made of clay. Then I bit the apple and they changed me to metal 🤘

They've done it before so why not do it again?

Jump to the 1:30 mark

And here's the original riff that came the previous year. Here you can jump to the 1:00 minute mark.

Even though I posted the comparison clip that shows a lot of similarities between the two songs, I don't really think Metallica ripped off Kat. Nor do I think they ripped off Dream Theater. Such similarities between songs happen all the time, and most of the time people do not notice them. But with a band like Metallica, everything they do gets dissected and analyzed to kingdom come.
Try this:

EDIT: "Lux" means "light" in Latin

This is what baffles me too. The cover is bad, because it's yellow. So profound and mature. Song titles are, as someone put it, "dad song titles". So profound and mature.
Even if the band released a black/white/blue/whatever cover with nothing on it, poeple would shit on it: "it's blank, their creativity reached rock bottom! they didn't even put the logo on the cover!"

The last Metallica album I (mostly) liked was "Load", every album that followed was a dissappointment to some extent. Moreover, they only have three albums I like from start to finish (three first ones, and yes, And Justice is not that great in my opinion, shoot me). Metallica is looong past the peak of their creativity. I don't expect anything great from them anymore. But shitting on whatever they do only because it's them is ridiculous and idiotic.

Late to the party, but I'll throw my two cents anyways. This is a great song. Maybe not if you're searching for the ghosts of MOP I suppose. But if you respect one of their key influences (Motorhead), and you listen carefully for the Whiplash moment, this song is a beauty. Fun. Nothing more, nothing less.
