Scatterbrain - Reveal Previously Unreleased Song
Former Scatterbrain guitarist Glenn Cummings has shared a previously unreleased song, called "Crazy Joe", which was recorded as a demo back in 1992 for what would have been the follow-up to the previous year's Scamboogery, with Hot Garbage as its working title. Due to label politics, however, that record would never see the light of day.
Cummings wrote via Facebook: "There's a Scatterbrain double-album that NO-ONE has ever heard. Back in the day the working title was Hot Garbage.
"Revisiting it (now in 2024) there are definitely some unpolished gems and some "stinkers" (imo) in there. Tracks included: 1. Crazy Joe, 2. All Liquored Up, 3. Beatrice, 4. Crossroads, 5. Dead Baby, 6. Get Out of Dodge, 7. Hot Garbage, 8. How Could I Love You, 9. Mad Dog Media, 10. Play Dumb, 11. Play It Safe, 12. Sex Sells, 14. Six Pack, 15. Songs For Sale, 16. Three Pigs, 17. Two Track Mind, and 18. Write that Hit - in no particular order.
"The story is, in '92, SB recorded a set of song demos to discuss with Elektra Records for inclusion on the next album. After we sent them a DAT and cassette of the tracks - there was complete silence for a month then finally an urgent meeting - Where we were advised to never play any of it for anyone ever again. They completely hated ALL OF IT! (HA!)
"Shortly after that Elektra Entertainment fired our stellar A&R team (Howard Thompson and Peter Lubin) and a few months later the band was released from our remaining contract option. Eventually I moved to Nashville and formed Stone Deep, Nashville with the guys from The Hard Corps.
"Tommy, Paul, Guy and Mike rocked on. Two of the Hot Garbage tracks ("Write That Hit", "How Could I Love You") eventually appeared alongside four new track and a third, and final, version of "Down with the Ship" on Scatterbrain's final release, the EP Mundus Intellectualis (1994).
"This track, "Crazy Joe", for whatever reason appeared first on the DAT I had. There's a lot to say about the tracks, about the collection, but maybe I'll save it all for the comments section. Here are the lyrics. Happy 2024! - Enjoy."
