Dark Angel drummer Gene Hoglan confirmed in a video message posted on social media that the band has finally hit the studio to start recording their long-awaited fifth studio album. Tentatively due for release in 2025, it will be the band's first record since 1991's Time Does Not Heal, and the first one to feature guitarist and Hoglan's wife Laura Christine, who replaced the late Jim Durkin following his passing last year.

Hoglan said: "Hey, everybody. It's your big buddy Gene here, and I just wanna let you know that I just finished the drums to the new Dark Angel record. It's coming."

Magnificent news. I still swing "Darkness Descends" in my stride, and merged into brilliance of the bay area thrash metal. Anyone who haven't check out the back catalogue, may start checking out the releases.

Look forward to it.

Darkness Descends never leaves my rotation. It's as damn near perfect as Reign In Blood, Pleasure to Kill or any other thrash metal album released in 1986 could be.

This slides easily in top 10 thrash albums of all time.

I know, right? Atrophy, Morbid Saint, Evildead and Blood Feast also released a new albums recently, it's like the mid-to-late 80's/early 90's is back!

Good to see plethora of thrash releases in 2024, not guaranteed to see every quality release. I did see this in 2023, but what a dull year came for modern thrash at end of the year.

If the new Dark Angel album actually ends up coming out this year rather than next year, it'll be my album of the year!

I'm skeptical of comeback albums after 20 or 30 yrs. Not every comeback album will be like Judas Priest.

I hope new Dark Angel drops a nuclear on us.

Arguably, Judas Priest never released a comeback album, because they never went away.

I wouldn't say they went away completely, but they did have some sort of semi-hiatus between Rob Halford's departure in 1992 and Tim "Ripper" Owens's entry to the band in 1996.
