Kerrigan - Wayfarer

Great news. The debut was one of my favourites in this style for a long, long time.

So excited for this!

I liked the previous one, but this is all very samey. Same vibe, songs rely on the same tricks / melodies / harmonies, it feels like listeing to the same song for 40m. I'm still not a fan of their sound either, which is quite thin. Anyway it's a good release, but the first one had more extra-ordinary moments.

There's nothing original or groundbreaking about this but it's still a really enjoyable listen and a slight improvement from the debut I'd say. There's much to appreciate here if you're into NWOTHM, from decent vocals and twin guitars with impressive riff melodies to great galloping rhythms. The production has that classic 80s sound which is ok but it just lacks that punch, I would've preferred a meatier tone tbh.

NWOTHM bands are hit and miss for me, but Kerrigan is one of the good ones definitely, very enjoyable album.
