Just like two years ago, In Flames have won a Swedish "Grammi Award" in the Best Hard Rock category, this time for their latest effort "A Sense Of Purpose". This is already the fourth time in five years the band is honoured with such an award (Mustasch won the Award last year). A total of five bands were nominated for their most recent releases, all of which came out during 2008. The nominees were as follows:

The Swedish "Grammis" gala was held on Wednesday night (January 7) at Hovet in Stockholm. In Flames were also nominated for the "Best Live" act. The band also performed the song "Alias" during the ceremony, which was broadcast live on Swedish national channel TV4. Video footage of the acceptance speech (in Swedish) and the performance can be viewed on blabbermouth.

Why do they still mistake metal for hard rock?

Anyway, it's obviously not about the music.

Cry Opeth fanboys, cry!
Seriously though, Meshuggah should have won this thing hands down.

PS @ In Flames: enjoy this one! Cuz I've got a sneaky feeling you won't be up for a Metal Storm Award...

Anyway, it's obviously not about the music.

Because in Sweden Metal is called Hårdrock among the people (except Metalheads) which means Hard Rock if you translate it to english. And still Metal is something born out of Hard Rock.

But Hard Rock was born out of Rock which was born out of Rock 'N' Roll/Blues which was born of something and so on... Hard Rock is a Rock subgenre which NOW is different from Metal, even if Metal born out of Hard Rock that doesn't mean anything.

Anyway, my first choice would be Watershed and second obZen. In Flames would be my third choice.

So what if someone is handed over a piece of molded gold. That doesn't prove anything except that a lot of people like that stuff. Award shows like this are a matter of opinion, and not fact, and no matter what, people are going to be upset about the choice of Grammy winners. At least those bands are better choices than anything the American Grammys can think up. Those are even worse.

The Meshuggah, Opeth, and Sabaton albums were all much better choices...

In Flames has a wider audience b/c of their sellout style changes and marketing, so its not that surprising they won. Let ignorance love ignorance.

no judges. The decision was made by the people

Not only, it was both judges and votes by the people. The only category the judges didn't have anything to say about was "the song of the year".

That explain a lot... since the fan base of Inflames is fucking huge... and waaaaaay to popular among non-metal people and emo fags. At least from the people I use to see here.

Opeth's album wasn't that good but... but... C'MON!!!! you can't even compare it to their last album!
Same goes to Meshuggah

Grammies are bullshit.
