Let the drama begin!
I gotta say it... This has been a good year in general. It succked for the mainstream but the new bands and the underground sure as hell had their opportunity to shine!

Look at the date the album was released.... then look at the year for the albums in the awards... Then look at Alcest's latest album one more time.
I love when this happens.

I was among the fans but some weren't. On the other hand... this year was extremely tight for BM tbh. Too many good releases for me and others so it was obvious some people would be dissapointed hahahahahah. I personally see Aaskereia and Negative Plane a far greater loss than Woods Of Desolation which was good and all but in the long run it was something that has been done before XP.
Those are my two cents.

I like how Dream Theater isn't nominated. It's a bold but also a justified move based on community response

Nothing is based on the community response in the nomination process, that's why there are write-in votes for people to have their say if they disagree with the choice of nominees but they were far from nomination.

The BM, Metalgaze, Post-Metal and Sludge/Stoner Metal nominations are specifically awesome

My only complaint is that I'm a little disappointed that with all the tech death releases last year and that among the decision to split a couple categories like Avant Garde and Meloblack that there is no separate category for Technical Death metal. Oh well, I am already familiar with all the releases in the DM category so I've already penciled in my vote there for Archspire; 2011 was a great year for death metal and all it's subgenres so I focused most on that genre all year long. Now I just need to go through and check out the releases in all the other categories I am not already familiar with so that I can vote legitimately...

Glad you liked them! There's some really tight competition going on in some of those. Sadly... I think mastodon will win. It was a good album though but just good

I have nothing against Dream Theater not being nominated, actually that's a good idea (all DT fanboys would have invaded and voted for them and they might/would have won), but no Arch/Matheos or Subsignal?! These two albums were very good if you ask me, especially Arch/Matheos.

They were considered, for sure, but didn't make the cut. Only 10 places after all...

Yeah Mastodon will win. I still haven't heard the album and I still have to check SubRosa and Sleestak which I'm guessing I will like a lot

I tried to hype Subsignal as much as I could but it fell a bit short. But I know what I put in my write-in box

Well at least it got nominated, I was afraid this was gonna end up unnoticed.

Very true. That's why I figured he ended up there, probably no room for a nomination in the bm category.
