Judge in terms of influence, talent, personal preference, etc. Personally mine is Black Flag, Henry Rollins is an energetic vocalist and Greg Ginn is a great guitarist.

Cancer Bats

Good Lord, the Cancer Bats ARE NOT Hardcore. YUCK.

And other.

I would have to go with Negative Approach...But the Misfits are a damn close second for me. Not because they're a great hardcore band so much, more just the fact I love their slower stuff and Danzig

But shouldn't this be in general music? Since Hardcore isn't really a form of metal?

You serious?

Unfortunately yes. I think they are horrible and would NEVER classify them with the Greats that were hardcore punk form the 80s lol.

Listen to whoever the crappy singer is of the Cancer Bats, then spin some Negative Approach, OLD Black Flag, MDC, Reagan Youth, Dead Kennedys, or Bad Brains.

You will instantly notice the increase in aggression, power, velocity, and urgency!

I've always considered Cancer Bats to be like, alternative punk. Not really "true" punk and very much an MTV outfit.

Although I don't really listen to any hardcore in general so it's not like my opinion holds much weight.

You don't know what Hardcore PUNK is.

that's pretty much hitting the nail on the head. that might be a modern twist on hardcore (post-hardcore? whatever), but there isn't anything particularly punk there.

not sure who my favorite is, really. i'd probably give the nod to Dead Kennedys for Plastic Surgery Disasters but Minor Threat was mighty important for me growing up, as was Black Flag. Although I am in the minority on them as I preferred the pre-Rollins vocalists/material for the most part.

I don't really listen to that much old school hardcore, nor that much hardcore in general. I just saw The Cancer Bats live and they put on an amazing show, and were listed here as hardcore punk.

I guess they're Post-Hardcore.

Well then my vote goes to The Cro-Mags.

Four words:

Sick of it All

I don't know many pure HxC bands though, I mainly listen to old school metallic hardcore from the hardcore camp.

As with me. I listened to NOFX and Agnostic Front once in a while. I have been dabbing in the post-hardcore stuff of today. Amia Venera Landscape and Hands for example.

Sorry about placing it in the wrong location. I haven't really gotten into Cancer Bats; compared to the '80s hardcore bands they are on a lower level of rawness.

I don't really know if you are the minority.

My friends and I all prefer the pre-Rollins era Black Flag. Keith Morris and Dez are my fave vocalists, they had a lot more aggression and chaos in their voice IMO.

A lot of people acknowledge the fact that Henry Rollins really not only ended Black Flag, but plain killed it...So a lot of punk fans just don't care for him. He is just to "artsy" for hardcore.

I've barely listened to any hardcore, but I should actually as I do love a lot of the genres that evolved from it.

DO IT!

Hardcore is still probably my all time favorite genre of music. I just connect with their politically angry and pissed off views so well

Plus I love how much emotion they squeeze out of such simple song structures!

The older stuff is so raw. The new stuff like post-hardcore is a really fascinating listen. So many elements. Try this Spirit...its fucking insane:

Sometimes I wonder if we are talking about the same band.

But I'd say that's hardcore for you, so if you thought it was awfully repetetive then I'd imagine you think the same of most other HxC bands.

Impossibru.

I am dead serious, some metalcore albums we both like are just as if not far more repetetive. I dunno what did SoiA to you but I think you downloaded the wrong albums .
