How cult does it sound back in the days for an underground black metal act from Japan signing with Euronymous' Deathlike Silence while the big fuzz was around the norwegian scene? Well, as cult as it sounds, Euronymous didn't live to see Scorn Defeat being released; had he lived until today, he would have been a black metal businessman and he'd be proud of Sigh.

Prretty good debut album. A bit primitive-sounding, but has some interesting ideas for the album recorded in 1993.

What I really like about this album is its instrumental simplicity while still showcasing Sigh’s experimental side and hinting at the masterpieces they would go on to create.

Just think about it, a Japanese band releasing a Black Metal album on Euronymous’ label, Deathlike Silence Productions, in 1993, and already pushing the genre’s conservative boundaries with keyboard, piano, and other experimental elements.

I also appreciate that much of the album is driven by mid-tempo guitar riffs, which adds to its distinct atmosphere.

All of this gives the album a very unique character. It still feels fresh and innovative even today, precisely because of how strange and unconventional it is.
