These days it can tend to be rare to come across bands that are both entirely original while also not too far out there with their quirkiness, and that combine the best of both the familiar and the unconventional. Greece's Hail Spirit Noir already added to the list of such bands with their 2012 effort Pneuma, easily one of the best debuts of the year. With Oi Magoi they now stand poised to take their sound in a perhaps more sophisticated direction.

Good album but like I expected, I prefer their debut over this.
EDIT: am I the only one who hears a little of virus the first track?

A great album in its entirety, the 2014 starts well.
all musics is good. Influences such as Oranssi Pazuzu, (especially in music Oi mogoi) voice reminds me shining a few times. a black album easy access.

Special mention:
Blood Guru
Demon For A Day
Satan Is Time
The Mermaid

Back in 2012 I either couldn't get into Pneuma or didn't think it was all that special, but about a month ago I listened again and I was very impressed. It's very possible that this one will beat everything for AOTY of 2014.

Hail Spirit Noir reminds me Noekk at times. That's good, because I miss them really much and now there is someone to fill the gap.

Fantastic album! Sounds a bit like Sarke made love to Ghost and did a lot of drugs.

To say that this album is an experience is an understatement! Best black metal album I've heard in years!

Very interesting album, and is certainly consistent all the way through. I love all the instrumental experimentation going on here, particularly in songs like "Demon for a day" and "The Mermaid", which are both superbly written in my opinion. The harsher vocal style for me seems a little unnecessary and part of me wishes that all the vocals would be clean or harmonic, but I guess that's the inclusion of the black metal influence seeping in. Nonetheless, one of this year's more invigorating releases for sure.

I think I like this a lot, but not sure Absolutely love Satan Is Time & Oi Magoi, the bass owns so hard throughtout the record too. The other tracks struck me less but must admit the songwritting is brilliant.

This remains one of my favourite albums of 2014 so far. Fantastic album.

A massive step down from Pneuma for me (unfortunately). The haunting atmosphere is gone, and despite retaining avantgarde elements, it just doesn't feel as unique nor special. It's got some catchy hooks and interesting sections, but I found it rather underwhelming. After about 5 listens my opinion of it has only gotten worse, so I guess I'll just stop listening to it

Hmmm, weird you like it so much less. Haven't properly listened to Pneuma (just 1 spin a while ago), so I can't really say anything about it. To me this album does feel unique and special. I've listened to it 10+ times easily and I still enjoy it a whole lot.

Pneuma also feels unique and special, but its different. Its a lot more Black Metal and Avant-Garde, while this is more Prog/Psych Rock-bounces-into-Metal. Both albums use different recipes and are amazing.

Finally got round to this but not quite sure what to make of it. I like the component parts but it feels as though the band tried to do too much here and the songs just feel like bits of songs cobbled together and the whole thing lacks cohesion and consistency. Didn't quite impress me as much as the debut, as Alex says, it lacks the thick, brooding atmosphere of the debut which feels tighter and more focussed.

This is nowhere near as good as the debut. Way too long as well, drags on a lot whereas the other one was short and sweet.

^ this.

Also, there's not much in the way of black metal here. This is mostly psychedelic prog rock and with some black metal - blackened psychedelic prog rock?

Old quote, but I use to feel the same before. Satan Is Time was crazy good upon first listen, but the rest not that much. Now, after a few listens I think the whole thing is fucking brilliant and probably my favorite of 2014 so far
