Hey, Wintersun. Listen up. You want to know how to make a proper, full-length album with hundreds upon hundreds of tracks over ten songs in only three years without constantly bitching about not having your own private studio/living space/jacuzzi, AND while still challenging both yourself and your fans with a multifarious jewel of avant-garde perfection? Take note, because Sigh have that totally locked down.

Sigh: the Pier Gerlofs Donia of extreme underwater basket-weaving, the Brough Superior SS100 of the 1805 Unspunnenfest, the Crank 2 of Tammany Hall, the Swabian Salute of double-corrugated, eight-fold, 14-gauge cardboard boxes. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but there's a little bit of everything - everything you didn't know you absolutely needed in a metal album.

After my first listen I didn't care for this much. Maybe it'll take a couple more to sink in, but I can't say I'm not disappointed a bit.

It definitely gets better and better the more you listen to it.

By the way, this album was released in Europe, so why can't we rate it?

This is some weird, wild stuff. Heavy metal, horn-heavy symphonic soundtrack, black metal, occasionally 80's thrash-sounding hooks, neo-classical solos, Jpop...This has a little bit of everything, and you never really know when or where it is going to happen. "The Tombfiller" is a great example of just how well Sigh manages to tie all of these elements together in an almost disturbingly enjoyable chaos. While the production urks me at times, especially in the symphonic parts (they just feel a little flat in the mix), I am amazed at how well they make everything fit in such a way that you can hear all of the parts instead of ending up with a wall of sound. A decent amount of folks are complaining about the production on this album, but I feel that it is exactly what it needs to be. Overblown production, but still pretty raw, and of course... SUPER SPOOKY.

If they senf you the wrong product (which is entirely possible unfortunately), you can't do much about it.

I've bought a few CDs from them recently and never had a problem.

I love this album. I haven't heard anything like this before! For me, this is a strong competitor for avant garde album of the year. Although DHG's "A Umbra Omega" is also a strong competitor. I will have to keep listening to both and see which one resonates more as I live with them for a while.

There's something about the clean vocals on the first track that's incredibly off-putting...it actually makes me feel a little nauseated...

Oh well, just gotta keep listening

Edit: wow, how is it possible that the second half of the album is infinitely better than the first half

Yeah... no. The clean vocals sound completely ridiculous and indeed incredibly off-putting, like LeKiwi says. Due to that not worthy of my time.

Yeah, cleans are indeed off-putting. (I hope there's an instrumental version?)
I mean, Sigh is one of my fav bands, and I pretty much like everything they put out before, actually among all their disco the only album I didn't enjoy much was Gallows Gallery exactly because of the vocals.
And now there's Graveward.. and I'm not being able to enjoy it as much as I would if it weren't for the voice =p

Yeah... no. The clean vocals sound completely ridiculous and indeed incredibly off-putting, like LeKiwi says. Due to that not worthy of my time.

That said, only the 1st and 3rd tracks feature those nasty Pokemon-theme-tune-esque vocals. Most of the album is actually mercifully bereft of those cringe-worthy vocals. I still recommend checking it out

OK I exaggerated in my post above - everything from track 4 onwards is high-8 or 9/10 material. That section at 1:18 on the first track should be vaporized from existence though. Just listen to it. It's so bad. Everything about it...is wrong. How did they write the rest of the album so magnificently, then screw up to such a monumental degree.

Not much from the Doctor on this one. I was hoping for some duelling guitar/sax solos.

Was a bit surprised to see the rating on this album so "low" but listening to it again for the first time in a while I can see why. Definitely the weakest since Scenes From Hell (though still far better than that). It's all a bit disjointed and even Sigh can't quite make it all work as a whole, even if there are lots of fun moments all over the place.

Still love The Tombfiller though. Very Bal-Sagoth-y, and one of the more consistent tracks on the album.

This was such a step down from In Somniphobia even. A pathetic effort from a band that is capable of far more.

Well, the G albums usually are. I think the I albums are the best in each cycle.
